Can't wait!

I'm one of the "non-essentials" of the federal government, so I might have a lot of time to hunt this year.  I guess if I'm gonna be furloughed, this is about as good of a time as any.

Doc Nock

Took a 3 hr walk last Friday up Central PA and found about a dozen chestnut oak acorns. That's it!

82* is not hunting...it's stinking up your stand location...but like others, hope springs eternal and I'll be out there...

Peel the bark off them critters if you get one so the meat doesn't sour on ya!

Shoot straight! Watch the ticks!

I did a little early season doe hunting in WMU 5C already. Saw plenty of deer but no shot opportunity. I'll be out on Saturday morning in SE PA then heading to Columbia County to hunt my property there early next week.

Be safe everyone and good luck!

Ron

Butchie

Yep, I'm with Doc Nock.  Calling for 84 here Saturday...too warm for me.  I'll wait for cooler temps next week.  Best of luck to everyone!

No acorns here either.
Look forward to the season also but...

I live right in the cwd Capitol of pa. We have some restrictions and bunch of stuff ESP wih handling the deer. Makes ya think even though they say it's okay to eat. Went to meeting last week they had for us. They said there nothing the can do to get rid of it. It's only going to get worse over time. Best thing they can do is put restrictions in place to minimize it spreading quickly.

Or outlaw "game farms" where most reports state the bad stuff emanates from anyway

It would be hard to sit out opening day. I'll be in the woods at least a couple of hours early, then do other things when the heat starts cranking.

Good luck to all.

The deer have been moving early mornings the past two Saturdays. Seems around 7:00-7:30 AM is when I have been seeing the majority of deer. After that I see nothing. I guess the heat has something to do with it. Haven't been out at night yet.

I'll be heading out Saturday evening no matter what. Gotta make the most of the spare time I have!

I reside within a CWD management area, but luckily the place I'm hunting is just outside of it.

No. Those deer here that was cwd positive was wild deer. No fenced deer had cwd. They are constantly being tested. My good friend owns deer farm. The deer came from Virginia then through West Virginia into southern pa. They will continue north east. That's where it is to spread to next.

redshaft, That information is incorrect. The first three cases in Pennsylvania were in captive deer herds in the southeastern/central part of the state. That is what prompted the implementation of the DMA's to prevent further spread as long as possible. After the season started last year, There were a few cases reported shot from the wild herd. However, the captive locations were far enough away from the wild cases that there is no chance that the two are related. It was just found in the captive herds first.
