First let me describe my hunting area. It's an 80 acre rectangle. The northern boundary is the road and my only parking & access. All the woods that I set in line the south end of it. Both east and west is fenceline. The properties on both east and west sides hold deer. I normally walk right down the center of the field (after harvest) back to the wooded section to not spook deer on either side. I often wonder if I should hug one side or the other so I'm not so visible going in. But then I may spook deer that might end up coming my way later? Thoughts?

Note: I have been successful at this property just wanting to hear some opinions. Maybe there are others who have a similar situation.

Maybe hug the downwind side of the woods going in. I never liked walking across a low field. Felt exposed.

Me, too. What are your prevailing winds? If they are west/southwest, like they are here, I would probably hug the eastern side of the property and still hunt it enroute to your stand.

Would depend on time of day for me. Before first light, I'd walk in the field, but for an evening hunt, I'd hunt in with the wild blowing out into the field.

Deer don't care, as long as ya keep walking by. It's when ya stop.

I would walk along the edge of the property so that my scent was either blowing in my face or into the neighboring property as I walked to my stand.  I would try to keep my hunting area upwind.  Just my thoughts.

I NEVER "walk" to my stand...

I always "hunt" my way in. I also do NOT, go in before 1st light. As soon as it is light enough to see where I'm putting my feet, I start to stillhunt my way in to my stand. Stick to the field edge & watch both the field & into the woods. For an evening hunt, I do the same thing. Sometimes you walk up on them bedded just inside the woodlot, sometimes you catch one headed out for an early dinner!!!
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

There is a fine line between Hunting, & Sitting there looking Stupid...
