Nice Mark! Hate to hear its been tough, but still plenty if season left.

Dan Bonner

My buddy Wade  killed a nanny on my place a couple weeks ago. He is a TX boy and is not used to hunting where he can't see a feeder. This is his first MS deer. I hope it won't be his last as I intend to continue shooting critters on his place here in TX. We were watching the solunar tables and it called for midday movement. He sat from Before daylight till 1:30 PM when he made the shot.  Perfect heart shot with a great 60 yd blood trail.

The conception date data is interesting. My place is in the north end of Warren county and I still have a bunch of spotted fawns. There are older fawns too but a lot of little ones. We also have a lot of deer like the one Wade killed. She was about 80 LBs. Too big to be this year's fawn but not nearly 1.5 years yet. Generally a yearling doe will weigh north of 100# there. My bet is she was born about  October last year putting her conception date right around April.  We are seeing a lot of of this in my area. Another buddy killed a 100# button buck in October. I wonder if we are hammering the big does a little hard and maybe fawns are coming in late and getting bread?

Might be, something is up. I guy I work with was telling me about a doe with spotted fawns he saw over the weekend.

I have a place in OK that typically breed early enough that I have never seen a spotted fawn in bow season. This year I took pictures of 2 does, both with twin spotted fawns inn mid Oct. WE assumed they were trying to hold off for Obama Care

I have pics of a buck breeding a doe on Feb 15th of last year,  and on the same property have seen them breed in late November.

I'm from perry county and last year the latest report of a doe being bred  was in March during turkey season. We start seeing fawns in august and most years we are still season some with spots around Christmas it seems to be very spread out down here and I imagine it's like that for a lot of other areas too.

Spurs

I am in North Ms and have seen bucks chasing the last two days.  Reminds me of a real rut???   I haven't seen much of that here before.  I'm sure it will be spotty as usual, but these sightings were quite a distance apart.  Different counties.  Looks promising

I had a great hunt Sunday. I went to a stand that has always been good but saw no sign. Decided to relocate and on the walk out stumbled across a very hot spot. I backed up against a gnarly Osage and waited about 10 minutes and did a long grunt with my mouth. I heard a noise and shifted to my right but saw nothing. Looking back to my left was a nice buck walking straight to me at less than 20 yards. He stopped , hooked a limb and started a scrape. He was pissed. He then turned broadside at 10 yards. I took careful aim and sailed a hand made sitka shaft over his back. It would have been perfect had he been 40 yards out. I love it.

That's what it's all about.  I've been close to a lot and nothing has panned out but I saw my first good buck this week so it's got me excited hoping to hone in on him soon

Well it's getting close to go time.  Seeing a lot of mature bucks on there feet.  Looking forward to the next couple weeks should be some good ones.

Actually I switched bows yest.  I had not killed a deer with my widow I got last march.  Black and white ebony 57@28 "Black Death" .   I would say its first hunt was a memorable one.
