First this:

Went up to Jim Dussias's (tarponut)property this weekend for a 3 day hunt and had a great time. Also got to meet another Tradganger from across the atlantic, Brian (Jim told me his handle on here but I forgot), great guy and he scored big as well but I'll let him tell his own story  :)

Anyway Friday evening found me in one of the newer stands, heard some commotion behind me and then 2 big black sows came around from my left and upwind and started to make their way around me, I was getting ready to shoot and waiting for a good lane to open up when they got downwind of me and caught a whiff of something they didn't like. They bolted out of there pretty quick, man those hogs are smart! My heart was thumping pretty hard  :)

Here's a view from where I was sitting, it's  a great spot:

Next morning found me getting in late but went to a different spot anyway to see if anything would show up, heard some rustling in the deep grass and saw some movement but nothing fully materialized was my own fault for getting there late and I wasn't happy with myself lol :

That evening found me in another pretty sweet spot, well shaded and with a nice breeze coming in:

Was up in the trees and in the woods and feeling pretty good  :)

This four pack of little footballs came in and I was just enjoying watching them fight and jostle around:

then around dusk some bigger ones came in and I got ready, singled one out to focus on and waited for my opportunity; when it finally came I don't remember drawing back and letting go, I was absolutely focused on the spot and in the moment. Turns out all my practice paid off, my shot was true and the hog didn't make it ten feet before it was over. A very quick end for the hog which I was thankful for  :)

All in all I had a blast and was able to get my first Trad Hog, that place was just crawling with them

Big thanks to the folks here at TradGang, without the knowledge here I wouldn't have made it this far

There is a place for all God's creatures....right next to the potatoes and gravy.

Very nice.  Those hogs can be tough to bring down.  Looks like you made a perfect shot.

Nice shot! How much did the hog weigh?

South MS, she wasn't the biggest I saw out there but probably was about 50 pounds or so. On Sunday morning I was sitting a different stand for a bit and was getting down to stalk back across the property, set my bow down and was coming down and looked over my right shoulder when two bigger ones came around the corner and busted me, was kicking myself the whole way back   :banghead:

Every mistake I made though just lays the groundwork for future success, even if I didn't get anything it would have been a great experience     :archer:

Congrats, Jim is a great guy. I had a great hunt with him last week. Will be back.

That sure was a fun hunt Johnny. Love the pics!
You made a textbook shot on a perfect eater sized hog. You've definitely got that Bob Lee dialed in!
Irv and I have been very fortunate to meet some great people running our little hog operation.
Johnny also shot a huge tilapia(4 lbs?) the second day bowfishing a nearby canal.
Looking forward to the next time Johnny(and Terry,Brian)!

Some big boys come to that spot, too!
