Sorry, I'm about to head out the door. This is the quick version... Tree stand hunting in north east Wyoming. On a ridge above the ranchers home . The was a field among the pine trees. A perfect setting, perfect weather, amazing spot.
He had entered some alfalfa too far away from me but just before dark came off the alfalfa towards me in a hurry. There was a thread on here recently where I mentioned I don't prefer it but don't hesitate on a quartering to shot. Well, that is all he offered and it wasn't going to get better.  He was quartering to, moving at a fast walk. he was at 22 steps. I like closer shots but I had only a few days to hunt. I drew back and it felt perfect and I shot. It passed right through with a ripping sound. I could see the arrow go right in.

The buck went only 30 paces and stopped with his head low, then fell right there! The 175 Gr VPA 3 blade had damaged most major organs beyond their ability to function for more than a few seconds.
The one photo makes the in hole seem a little low. But a photo the following day shoes the location better.

I was able to go after squirrels later and got a few.

The exit hole was an inch or two to the rear of the last rib.
