Hi All

I just aquired a Browning Safari Recurve, it shoots Sweet, but it came to me covered with Camo tape, I took the time and removed it all to find some really beutifull figured wood but it is covered with tape residue, I tried some peanut butter and it took of quite a bit, I don't want to strip the finish. Any Ideas???

Eucalyptus oil works extremely well for removing sticky residues.

OK Guys, The GOO BE GONE worked Great! now I noticed a twist in the top limb, Any Suggestions, it seems about a 1/4 " to the left top limb I'm bummed but I did nt notice it with the tape on. (PS Peanut butter works on lighter stuff also my kids once got gum in there hair and it took it right out)

Twist in the limb tip can be removed with hot tap water . Get a clamp set up ready to hold the tip over a little farther than you think it needs to go. Run super hot tap water( not boiling water) over the twisted part for a few minutes til its too hot to hang on to (might have to turn up the h20 heater for this if ya got young-uns) then get it into the jig to hold it til its cool. May have to do it a coupla times before you get it all. It works. I've done a few this way.

Do you mean that the tape adhesive has crystalized?

On the areas where the tape adhesive is "crystalized" you can use 600 grit WETTED sandpaper (or better yet, 1200 grit emery paper) to abrade the residue away.

Take a few LIGHT strokes over the area affected, dry the limb off, and check your progression. With care, you should be able to remove all the remaining glue residue, with little to no damage to the finish.

Remember to take only a few strokes on the limb, and then dry it off and check it.

I have done this for rifle stocks that fellows have camo taped, without having to refinish.

I use a product here at work. 3M Ahesive remover. It's citrus based and solvent free. Spray it on, wait a couple minutes, then wipe with a soft paper or terry towel. ALL of the residue comes off. The official 3M mfr. model number is 6041. I deal with a lot of glue residue from hot glue perfect binding machines and this works the best. I have used all the aforementioned products and this works the best, bar none! It's available from Grainger and a few other places on line.
