In an earlier post, related sharpening Simmons Landsharks, many of you suggested the RADA wheelie sharpener.  Two arrived in the mail this afternoon and after a number of attempts to sharpen my landsharks I find myself really making no progress (may actually be less sharp then out of the package).  I don't know what I am doing wrong... I am using light strokes, and I have made sure that the broadhead is position correctly on the wheels.  Any thoughts would be appreciated...?

I use heavy pressure at first or lay the factory grind down a bit with a chainsaw file. You will feel it pulling through more easily. After that I push it through the other way to get the back edges good and finish with lighter and lighter strokes. After the initial sharpening touch ups are sooo easy.

Make sure as you're pulling the head through that the point is down about 45*

I also like to hold the arrow and pull the RADA instead of the arrow.  Pull it toward you (from front of head toward the back.

Works well for me.

Appreciate all the input!  I really am "sharpening challenged..... I followed the tutorial and the advice each of you has shared and I still can't get these buggers sharp.  I will keep working at it...!

Do a search in powwow for the word wheelie as the subject only. There is a thread about how to correctly use the wheelie sharpener. In the second post there is a link to JC's Sharpening Thread, in there he shows how to use the Rada on Simmons heads. I would post the link bit I am on my ipad and cant figure out how to do it.

I had similar troubles with the RADA and pretty much gave up. I keep one in my pack as a last resort. I started using the system Simmons sells, I think it's called the steelmaster. I sharpened 4 tree sharks last nite in under 30 minutes. Plus I was a bit rusty. My last head took just over 5 minutes, that's both sides.Once you figure out the best mounting angle for the head and file stroke it is foolproof. Certainly not as portable as a RADA but I had much better, quicker results.

stropping on leather that I have always done in
the past but not to the extent I did this time and
that is all it took to get the razor edge I was
looking for. worked for me, may be worth a little
more time on the final strop for you also.

Like alligatordond said I use the steelmaster simmions sells for all my 2 blade broadheads. Its real easy to use and gets them sharp quick. If you don't have any luck with what you have take a look at it.

I have had good results with the rada on tree sharks. BUT, I just read something on the JC post that took things to the next level. The tip about pushing your thumb against the one washer to push the wheel together has taken it to the next level of sharpness.   BILL

Well your only out about 10 or so bucks if you don't get it. If it were a Sitka sharpener you'd be out 90 bucks ha ha

I can't tell you all how much I appreciate all this input!  Thing ave really been busy this past week so hopefully tomorrow night I can start the process of getting my Landsharks razor sharp.  My other objective is to maintain the 175 grain weight in the process and not end up with a 100 grain broadhead when I am done!!
