Well, quit my government job on post so no more Oklahoma elk hunting for me. Honestly, kinda saddened by that. In the 13yrs I've been affiliated with Sill in one way or another I only hunted 2 days during last years elk season. Tracked a bull literally ac my footprints at one point.

Oh well, going back into the oil patch, maybe I can afford to go someplace more remote.

With all do respect, what does this all mean?
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Simply that. I can't go elk hunting anymore in my home state without it being a draw hunt.

Many don't know that OK has elk.

I thought you could buy a tag and hunt on private property??

To understand Soonerlongbows remorse. You have to have been there. I know his feeling. I connected last year and must wait until 2016 hunt again. It is by far the best elk hunt I have been on. Last year I drew one day the area I like to hunt. I encountered/stalked 14 (yes 14) bulls, saw a bull fight, and had a bull about 30yds from me screaming his head off in thick brush with no shot. My family ranches in the Flat Tops region of CO and I consider this hunt far better. In addition this hunt is a "Big Thank You" to our troops who have given so much to this country. My son fell in 2004 and each year his fellow soldiers/NCO's and I meet there at Ft Sill to fellowship and share "war stories". That is the reason it is open only to retired military, Active Duty, and DOD personnel. It is a little known secret in OK just like the traditional only bow hunt on the MCAAP in McAlester.

Thank you for your service, and my condolences for your son. I have lost some of my brothers in arms but not family.

Hunting on Ft. Sill is truely one of the best kept secrets in all of OK hunting. There are bucks out there that dwarf those on MCAAP. It is also open non DoD personnel for deer archery but only if you get sponsored, so if you have family or friends stationed there beg them to take you!!!
