Looking for some thoughts and experiences with blood trails with the different broadband configurations.

Should have mentioned....Whitetail blood trails.

So far for me, a three blade leaves more blood.  But any sharp broadhead through the lungs should leave enough blood.

I still like the old Anderson 2 blade 1 7/8"broadhead. Very similae to the old Pearson "dead head"...that WIDE broadhead gave a tremendous bloodtrail..big wound channel...!! My advice on a 2 blade design is look for a 1 3/4" to 2" width razor head...I believe the Simmons sharks would do well here...good luck.....john

Four blade for me  

No whitetail, but mule deer and blacktails... All I have shot with two blades have fallen within sight or barley out of sight and close enough to hear them go down. Ill stick with 2 for now.

2 blade or 2 blade with a bleeder, both seem to work well enough for me, I have a hard time leaving something that works. I think blood on the ground has a awful lot to do with sharpness of the head and of course hit location, more than number of blades...

I like big ones regardless of blade count.

I agree with Dave's comment.  Also, I did not notice much difference between a 4 blade zwickey Eskimo compared to the 2 blade Delta.  I want to shoot one with a Snuffer then I will let you know!

In my opinion it all comes down to shot placement.  Sure the blades you have the more cut up the insides will be.  But with a well placed shot that critter aint goin far.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I since 1973 I have shot whitetail deer with 2,3,4 and 5 blade broadheads.  I have had great bloodtrails with all of them and poor to non-existent with all of them.  Their are just to many variables to guarantee what kind of bloodtrail you will get every time.  Normally, if I hit 'em in the vitals with a sharp, good quality, COC broadhead and get a low exit wound, I will have enough blood on the ground to trail them easily.  I would advise you to try several different kinds of broadheads to find the one that flys the best from YOUR set-up that YOU can get the sharpest that gives you a high probability of a total pass-thru dependent on the style of hunting you plan to do.  Obviously,if you shoot higher pounds, you are gonna be able to use bigger broadheads than if you shoot lower poundage.  When you shoot one and you don't hear them drop or your think your shot wasn't exactly where you wanted it, wait and give'm time.  Don't rush it.  Get a buddy if possible and take it slow.  I mark the trail with toilet paper and also use "chem-lights" (after dark) so I can stay on line.   Use the search engine and type in "bloodtrails".  You'll find a lots of good info here.

I have killed deer with 2, 3 and 4 blade. Difference wasnot noticeable. So for last 10 years I have just used magnus 2 blade. The 1.5 wide ones. Easy to sharpen, fly nice and quite. Very happy

I use and like them all. As long as I do my part and they are sharp good blood trails and quick recovery.

I agree that most in the right spot will do the job.
But I beleieve that trauma and tissue damage also come into play.
Several years ago my buddy hit a doe badly.
Straight thru the meatiest part of the hip. Thru and thru with a woodsman.
We found her at the edge of a lake dead.
Tough tracking job but she died.
Im using a snuffer this year.

All broadheads cut. I like most penetration I can get. A two blade used from a large variety of bow weight will penetrate best. A hole on both sides will put more blood on the ground.

Years ago, I used mostly three blade heads with replaceable blades...from compound bows AND recurves. For a while I used the big Thunderhead 160 grain three blade. With great success...I usually had lots of blood, and recovery distances averaged about 100 yards.

I had a fella tell me during a conversation at a 3-D shoot one summer, that if I used a two blade head, the impact of the arrow would scare the deer less because of how much easier the two blade could penetrate hide and flesh. This would result in the deer running a much shorter distance before it stopped to watch its backtrail...and use up precious seconds before going down.  After using two edge heads for several years, I found this to be absolutely true.
