How do y'all ship a bow if you sell it ?  By the time I box up a bow, insure it, I'm averaging about $50. It seems to me that I spending way to much. How are the rest of y'all doing it ?

Just like you.  There is in my opinion no cheap or easy way.

TxAg

Cardboard carpet tubes. With priority shipping and insurance it is usually around $25

Longbows are easier than recurves, but recurves can be done as well.

It depends on which carrier you choose as well. I have found that USPS priority is more reasonable on prices compared to UPS or FedEx.

What style bows are you shipping?

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

And where it is going.  I just shipped a riser to a fellow in Australia yesterday.  two and half pound package with insurance was $55.  Getting ridiculous.

Recurve to anywhere in the states and it's costing me
somewhere around $50 give or take 5 bucks.

The last bow I shipped 6 mo. ago was $23.50 shipped priority  with insurance thru USPS. I hope it hasn't gone up that much.

Recently shipped a 1 piece longbow here in the states and it ran $44 and change. usps. if they can find any way to up charge they do.

dcmeckel

Yep, thats about what it costs me too. $30 to $50 every time. Take downs seem to be a bit less, I think it has to do with size more than weight.

JRY309

The rates have increased a bit, alot depends on the zip code your shipping to and the weight of the package. Also try to keep your package under 84" total which is length plus girth. If you are over 84" then you will be hit with an oversize surcharge. But it is costing more these days.

Stykbow62

Apparently for priority / insured mail, that must be the going rates.
Thanks for the help.

Sent a one pc longbow to Texas from here in Georgia a couple weeks back. USPS Priority Mail insured for $450 ran $23.55. Shipped in a tube. Be sure to keep total measurement less than 84" or they will ream you with a oversize charge.

Just mailed one today, cost $20.00 priority, insured for $800.00 thru Post Office. Used 3 rivers arrow box. Single piece might be a little more, would have to put in tube.

I just sent a one piece 66" longbow Georgia to Texas with $500 insurance and it was $22.50 USPS.
Received a one piece from Maine and it showed the same price almost.

Both were in PVC tubes.

My advise is to go to the USPS online site and do your own shipping and weighing and print the label.
At the PO they weighed and measured the bow six different ways it seemed and all my figures were good and the price did not change.
I slightly exaggerated the weight and rounded up the measurements to be safe.

Thanks for all of the input.

I use this tube from home depot.   http://www.homedepot.com/p/Advanced-Drainage-Systems-4-in-x-10-ft-Triplewall-Pipe-Solid-4550010/100135310#.UiEDORZVq20

I cut off the end and buy two end caps and put some tape on them to ship.  A little padding inside and its good to go.  Its always been around $20-$25 USPS for me.
