My in-laws live in a golf course in a small town here in KY and the driving range is tucked back away by the slough all by its self and offers 300 yds of straight green. I have wanted to try some flight shooting for years but we are always down here with a full schedule.

Well since I am working out of Paducah/evansville I am staying at my in-laws this week and brought my JD Berry Morning star along.

Instead of te typical pull back as far as you can flight shooting I wanted to see how far my hunting set up would shoot with my typical anchor.
My bow is 50@26 and I draw 26". I'm shooting 28 1/4" beman ICS 500 with 175 gr up front.

My average distance was 180 yds.  SOO I wanted to try to "group" them up and it was a blast!!!!!!!!!!

The range

The "group". If you look close you can see the red fletcher.  The sign behind them is the 200 yd marker

These signs are being taken down as the local kids have destroyed them so the groundskeeper said I could shoot at them.
He didn't have to worry about me hitting these shots.  Here is my group from trying to hit the sign at 100 yds
Bad pics but you should be able to pick out the arrows

There was a 50 yd sign also, so I figured if give it some shots. This pic was my best group at 50.  I shot about 5 rounds of 4 arrows and typically hit 3 out of four but one of my rounds I shot high twice, low once and a hit.  I never did hit a 4out of four

There are three arrows there, and I shot one under by a few inches.

Good shooting Brian. Those long shots are fun. Watching the arrow in flight is magical.

NOW for the "what was learned" section.  These long shots proved I have decent form and pretty good tuned arrows even though I did not hit everything, I did not have a single bad flyer left or right so it was elevation that got me.  It is wonderful to know that your arrows are "shooting the line" and flying true.

I had an absolute blast out there and look forward to making some foam discs so I can do some aerial shooting out there.

Great shooting! Wouldn't it be awesome if you got a Robin Hood at 170 yds?

When I read about that elk shot way back when, we made a sort of elk with burlap and foam. It was dimensionally correct except it had a set of large 11 point whitetail antlers skull and wall plate still attached and 2by4 legs. I used my 89 pound reverse Tembo. It was suppose to be one shot high one shot low and one shot right on.  It was in reality one shot so long that I lost the arrow, the next shot quite long, the next, the next and the next a bit over and then finally, WHACK, big red Howard Hill arrow flying all over the place.  I hit the antlers dead on and broke them and the arrow to pieces. I am not expecting to be able to hit anything that far away any more.

Is nice to have a golf cart when you have to cover those kinds of distances to retrieve your arrows!
Life is a whole lot easier when you just plow around the stump.

Pavan,
I wish I could have had a target of sorts to actually try to hit. I may try to position to 170 yds from the 200 yd sign and see what I can do.  I'm sure it will be lots of misses and maybe a hit.

And Archie, the golf cart was GREAT.

Once you shoot a JD Berry reverse handle bow  it's hard to pick up anything else.  Good shooting...
