Can any of you Montana guys comment on district 422-80? It is north and a little east of Anaconda and Deer Lodge. I have put in the last two years for the Elk B license and haven't been drawn. I am looking at the surplus licenses. 422-80 has several left and was wondering if that district is worth a shot.
Any help would be appreciated!
thanks, Joe

Joe,
That are borders the east side of the Scapegoat Wilderness and the southern end of the Bob Marshall Wilderness, both of which contain lots of elk. During bow season, the majority of the elk will be up higher in the wilderness areas, but there will be elk on the public land along the wilderness boundaries, as well. There are several very large ranches in that district and I'm not sure if they allow hunters or not.
If nothing else, it is a beautiful area and would be a great place to camp and..................you never know!!!!

You can garner a lot of info by simply calling MT FWP region 4 headquarters and ask.   They will give you the best access points, landowners who participate in block-management programs, game damage areas, the current wolf situation, etc. etc.   Try there first.  You can find the contact info on their website.
