Good luck ADK,

I hunted the Roosevelt Nat'l Forest about 13 years ago. We saw quite a few elk and had a great time. It was later in the year, actually in October, and got kind of cool at night. Nice part of it was we were able to drive into our campsite.

Enjoy it!

Best of luck guys and stay safe.  It is going to be a great year and can't wait to hear all the stories and maybe even have one of my own.  Idaho elk for me.

Good luck. I'm planning on heading out sometime during the first to weeks.

I'm heading to Colorado in 10 days for a week-long elk hunt in the Zirkel Wilderness Area. Going to use my Morrison ILF bow (52#) at my draw length with 550g goldtips tipped with zephyr scirroco 150g broadheads. Good luck to all of you guys who are hunting elk this season.

Leaving the 28th for 16 days on my first elk hunt in NW Colorado using the Northern Mist Classic with ash arrows and Grizzly heads. I'm just a little excited to just wander and everything else will be a bonus.

I hear you... I'm going up tomorrow to hang stands...

Kind of off subject but how much does the hunting pressure pick up when the muzzleloader season opens for that week. I never even thought about it when I planned my hunt and that's the week I planned on heading out. This Colorado deal is new to me. Hunted Montana and kind of decided that more people is better than wolves and griz.

4 point: Where I hunt the MLs don't hurt me any. I pack in to a wilderness area and have only heard one shot in 4 years.

I'm sure others haven't fared so well.

By the way... I think you picked a great week to be elk hunting.

Good luck and God bless!

Thanks fnshtr, I plan on packing into a wilderness area as well. I see this year as more of a scouting trip but never know I might luck into something. My cousin and uncle live out there but they don't archery hunt so they aren't much help.

Are some of the wilderness areas over the counter or do you need points?

Ken, best of luck you and the group! Stay safe out there and shoot straight.   :wavey:
