Rosewood is one of my favorites.

The bow with yellow stripes is rose wood (the other is cocobola)

My understanding is that export of Brazilian Rosewood has been banned for a while...does anyone know how long the ban has been in place...my 1960 Kodiak feature some nice old Brazilian Rosewood...the current 59 Kodiak replicas use Bolivian rosewood which is not the same

I find hobbithouseinc.com to be a very handy resource when it comes to exotic woods...interesting reading about both Brazilian and Bolivian rosewood

I recall the import ban on Brazilian rosewood started in 1969 because Martin Guitars went from Brazilian rosewood backs to the other rosewood (senior moment here). Bowyers must have had a good supply laid up becuase they were using it on risers as late as the mid 70s.

Reddogge is right, it was the late 60's Gibson & Martin used a ton of it till 68 or 69. It is an excellent tone wood. It can still be had but very costly, last I knew Brazilian back & sides on a guitar would add $2500-3000 to your bill.

Rosewood is just as beautiful in a bow as it is in a guitar. That is about the highest praise possible in my opinion.

The only Boyer I know who is still making bows from real Brazilian Rosewood is Mike Fedora. Mike once told me he has it for his special bows and the wood is over 40 years old.

TRAP, that is a stunning example. Makes me want to have mine redone.
