If I treat my chigger bites they are gone in about 10 days.

If I do nothing they are gone in about 10 days.

I've stopped trying to treat for the chigger bite itself and just focus on treating the itch.

Hand sanitizer seems to help some.

ok to prevent chiggers, I knew an older archer        high stockings over his socks and pulled over his pants leg opennings(he said the chiggers couldn't get through the small holes unless  it had a       rip) Others I've seen have duct tape their boots  to their pants.(you might be a red neck)

I work in the ER.  They do not bore into your skin.  They bite you and their saliva causes a massive release of histamine causing terrible itching.  The key is to use repellant when in the woods and IMMEDIATELY when you return to camp or home wash and scrub yourself head to toe.  This will rinse your body of any still left on you...it's the ones that stay on board and bite you over and over that do the most harm.  I got em bad last year because like a bonehead I relied on my Thermacell while sitting in a natural ground blind and forgot to treat my body.  I also delayed showering til many hours after returning home.  This made for a horrible 3 days after.

Treat your body and clothes and wash up after the woods.  Nail polish and the rest of those old wives remedies are crap.  Try rubbing alcohol for cooling relief and steaming hot showers.

Here is my full proof method for chigger prevention: move north

In the boy scouts they told us to look for the side of your legs that had the most bites. Shave a strip of leg hair next to that. Light your leg hair on fire on the side with the most chigger/bites, and when the little buggers run across the bare strip...stab them with an ice pick.

Yeah, the lice shampoo works. And take benadryl.

hydrocortisone cream on the bites and benaydral pills for the itching

only  a very small amount of bleach in some water
is needed.
less is better. not the other way round.

i was bitten by a copperhead snake in 1985 and had over 300 chiggar bites at one time and believe it or not i would prefer the snake bite than chiggars. they are terrible

Tried just about everything on here once.  Bleach always worked for me, seems to dry up the bites.  If you have access to a pool or hot tub get in one for at least an hour.  That seems to help.  I use permythin to keep them off when hunting but just recently got them at my kids football practice of all places.  He is not to happy with them either.  Of course, more beer works as well.
