I woke up this morning and watched a couple of videos on twisting flemish strings. I think I am going to give making my own a shot. Just a couple of questions for you guys.

Where do you guys order your materials?

Any tips on making the jig?

Any tips or tricks for twisting strings?

I am a complete newbe when it comes to strings, so any advice is appreciated.

You can get the materials a lot of places I get mine from 3 rivers. You can get the jig there as well. I watched the DVD "doing the twist" or something like that and just dove in and started building mine. You just have to do it to really learn

I figured I was going to order from 3 Rivers. If I make a generic B50 flemish twist string, what dia. serving whould I need?

I use Brownell's size #4 or .021 nylon serving on mine.

Tip: don't overthink the direction of twist, make both ends the same direction.
For some reason many new stringmakers seem to think that the ends have to be twisted opposite from one another. The first stringing of one of these strings will see it completely unravel.

3 Rivers carries "How to Build a Great Bowstring".  Almost 90 minutes long, covers flemish and endless including instructions on making a proper flemish board.  You want your board to go by string length, not bow length.

Serving diameter depends on strand count and nock type.  Most bows will be fine with 12-14 strands of B-55, and with nocks that have a .098 throat you can use nylon, .018 or .019;  or if you light a tighter fit .021.
