A.S.

I'm looking for pics/ideas from anyone using a plunger on a wooden riser and shooting off the shelf....any out there?

Not a lot of people willing to drill a plunger hole in their bow's riser. I HAD thought of purchasing an older "target" bow and doing it ( a lot of them have holes of some sort or other in them anyway). Have never hunted with a plunger/shelf combination, but have used plunger/elevated rest, and they are not real conducive in hunting situations. Mainly, a bother keeping the arrow on the rest in  tense moments. Can be noisy too.
Hmmmmm. I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm
not sure that what you heard is what I actually meant!

Can't tell much from the picture but I've set up my recurves like this for years... love it. The plunger is behind the leather arrow plate to keep dust and dirt out of the unit.

Charlie, thank you! I knew I had seen your pic before, I just couldn't find it.

I have metal ILF risers with plungers, a Morrison gen 2 is set up plunger/shelf and  Das master with plunger/flipper. I would be leery about drilling a hole in a wood riser before talking with the bowyer. I have asked a bowyer about this in the past and he did not recommend it. I know Border makes a triple carbon spine riser that has plunger holes from bowyer.

Back to Danny's you go!  Go ahead, I just dare you to drill a hole in that tip!    :scared:

Charlie, is that bow one of your makes? Very nice looking.

I have hunted from the shelf and plungers. I much prefer the plunger.

I have no problem with the arrow on the rest (I shoot 3 fingers under which helps a lot with this). One does have to make sure the rest arm is covered to prevent a rubbing sound.

I wish I had my Habu and my Tip drilled this way. Had I done that they wouldn't be left on the rack while my hunt-friendly plunger bows go to the tree with me.

I'm just thinking...always thinking!   :shaka:

The Samick Sage has a plunger hole if you want to experiment without ruining your riser, and they're not very expensive.

I do not have a pic. but I do something similar to Charlie except I use velcro to cover the plunger. Shawn

Shawn, did you drill your riser yourself, or did he bowyer do it?

Charlie Lamb

Iokus... yep, that's one of my Sunbear recurves.
