Looking at both.  Basically $20 difference.  What do you know?

Thanks Guys

Bears can attack people- although fewer people have been killed by bears than in all WWI and WWII combined.

Have owned Danner Proghorn and have been my favourite boot, BUT -

When I first got them 10 yrs ago I thought they were the most comfortable boot I've owned and I still do.

The waterproofing / gortex lasted about ONE year.  And I live in a very wet climate.

Other than that, great boot.  While comfortable, they are not real "stiff" like some backpacking shoes.  (like vasque)

I still wear them and I enjoy them but the waterproofing not lasting was a bummer.

Now I just apply both mink oil and that spray stuff to cause beading.  Waterproofing last for one or two hunts then I need to reapply.

If I were looking at a new boot the biggest question I would consider (based on my needs) is how waterproof do you need them to be.

Not the best boot for backpacking as they are very pliable. Thou an 8 inch upper (or whatever it's called) I have still rolled on my ankle when hiking rocky terrain.

I have been dong a lot of reading on boots recently and it seems on the majority of backpacking sites that many peeps are sharing that gortex gives out after a few seasons (event when maintained properly.

For that reason, while not as comfortable, a full grain boot like this has proved (for me) to be better on the long term waterproofing...

Good luck.

I don't have any experience with either of those models, but I have worn danners for about 10 years. They have been everything I've needed a boot to be and more. Personally, I don't think you'll be disappointed with either choice.

Used to have a pair of the elk ridge boots.  Most uncomfortable boot I've ever owned.  May have been just my foot, but I got rid ofvthem after 1 season.  Construction seemed solid, but they almost crippled me.  Don't buy boots online unless you've tried that type on already.

Have had the pronghorns and a similar boot from cabelas to the wapiti. If you have normal feet they are fine. Like said above, gortex doesn't last long in them  if your going to be hunting real steep country, I'd go with something other than pronghorns, if wapiti is model I'm thinking of that has the laces run almost all the way to the toe, those are the one to go with for mountain hunting out of the two you mentioned, especially if you have a narrow foot. I had a couple of pair of pronghorns and switched to Kayland Zephyrs last year, made such a huge change in my end of day strength in my lower legs. I have low volume feet and swam in most men's boots. Kaylands were a game changer for me!

Various bows, but if you see me shooting, it's probably a Toelke in my hand!

Have the Pronghorns and they are a true to fit boot, no issues with them. Use Danners for duty and they hold up well and great company/customer service with my experiences..

I have the Pronghorns also.  True to size.  Took a bit longer to break them in than I liked, but, now, they are my favorite insulated boot.

Never question a man's choice in bows or the quality of an animal he kills.  He is the only one who has to be satisfied with either of those choices.

Roadkill

I used Danners while in the Corps, and now wear Pronghorns. No issues. Would but themagain

I had poor performance with the waterproof membrane in my Danners. Left leaked right out of the box, the right followed suit in less than a year.
My Meindls (both pairs) on the other hand, have been rock solid.

Hislight has made a 100% perfect review about these boots.

I'd go the extra mile and spend a few bucks more for a pair of Meindl's instead of the Vasques.

I have had a set of the Pronghorn Hunters for several years, love them.  I honestly think they are more comfortable than tennis shoes.  Not to heavy, or to expensive.  I don't worry much about the water proofing, never had any luck with a leather boot being waterproof.

Have worn pronghorns for years - far and away my favorite boot.  But I have not hunted mountains in them.

U.S. made Danners are the best boots I've found. I have a pair of Red Wing boots and they are the most comfortable boots I've ever worn but they didn't last as long as I'd hoped.

Thank you all.  Appreciate your input. Ended up with Danner Pronghorns.  Size (15), price, and multiple uses +++.

Where can you find American made Danners? I looked at some Pronghorns at Gander and they were made in China.
