Folks,

I am just getting into this and want to sharpen my woodsmans. Should I buy a file from three rivers, or is there a good model I can buy at the local hardware store? Thanks!

10" mill bastard file  from your local hardware store is all you need!

For the past few years I been using a chainsaw file. I used a mill before that but think I get sharper this way. By the way I use snuffers.

I use a flat chainsaw raker file. It gets mine razor sharp. The raker file is so inexpensive that I have on in each of my hunting packs and another on my work bench. It is a small file so a handle will help keep your fingers safe.

14" babbit file for a couple passes.

Then coarse stone.
med/fine stone.
Then cardboard..

I picked up a 12" file from Lowe's. Works great. God bless.

I agree, and you can get them super sharp with just a file too....but I finish mine on a Jewel Stick to take it to the next level of sharpness.

As others have said either a 10 or 12 inch mill bastard file will do all you need to do with the Woodsman. I actually place my file in a vise holding on the edge so the flat side is up and stroke the broadhead on the stationary file.    

I'm partial to a 12" USA made Nicholson fine file. Works great for my Snuffers as well as Woodsmans.I file the broadhead 2 blades at at time from back to tip. Then a fine stone, tip to back and leather strop back to tip. I work on the edge until the lines from the factory edge are pretty well gone.

lotsa good ways to sharpen this fine broadhead.

mounted on a piece of shaft, i take a new woodsman and run it on a table sanding belt and slightly tip up the back end on all 3 sides to slightly reshape the too flimsy needle point into a tri-chisel shape.

then i push each side on a 12" mill bastard file to sharpen, finishing with a fine diamond stone.  will shave arm hair.  in my field possibles bag i take a 6" mill bastard file and folding diamond hone for touch ups.

agree with cbcrow chain file is all i use.snuffers deltas and centour and simmons. one file does it all

3 sided Jewel stick works for me
