Overspined - having grain run out doesn't bother me....as long as it's not too much.  My blank bale arrows are seriously abused in relation to the life of a normal arrow.  I just need not push the envelope of their lifespan.

It's a natural material, it's gonna happen sooner or later. That being said, had the same thing happen to me and a carbon back in my wheel days. I was at an indoor range and it sounded like a .22 going off. Had quite a nasty hematoma the length of my bow arm (never used an armguard back then) that took a couple months to clear up. Anyway, glad both you and your equipment came out unscathed.

I was beginning to think this was all an urban legend as I don't see very many stories or pics of it happening....  Has anyone else ever had a wood shaft embed in the hand because of grain orientation?  Not worth the risk but wondering what are the odds here.

I would still rather use wood than any other material for arrows. Like anything else, things break. But at least in this case it looks as if they were set up correctly and worked as it should.
