My way of hunting which mostly is find what they are eating and wait has worked for me  purty good. I do set on funnels when I can`t find a hot feed tree and usually set funnels during the rut.
This year I have the opportunity to hunt some "new" ground and have been looking around some. I found a big Gooseberry bush (wild Blueberry) and put a trail cam on it. these things are fun......

Easy to tell that if it were season about a two morning sitting would put meat in the freezer.I`m just learning the trail cam addiction but I know now not to set one due east..RC

That's good stuff RC. I used to love to hunt acorn trees for the same reason. But it seems where I now hunt the acorns are gone by the time season opens. When this happens the deer swith back to the ag fields but you ain't gonna catch them there during daylight!  So it often becomes a game of hopping from one trail to the next trying to catch them moving towards the field. I like to think of it as musical treestands. Sooner or later the music will stop playing and ill be in range to "tag" a deer.

RC

Field deer are tuff Jon. I have a couple of fields I can hunt but seldom do. I`ll see deer every evening but usually to far away. If I`m not careful I `ve wasted a week watching deer instead of killing one. I much prefer hunting early soft mast then on to acorns as the year progresses. Our water oaks drop from September till December in spots. that said there is nothing like a hot creek crossing in November .RC

Great post.

last year the acorns were gone by me for the season opener, but they were hitting them really hard when they were falling.

I found a good apple tree but think I messed up the spot for the season.

I agree with RC about hunting fields....It took some years of ignorance and empty freezers to enlighten this dense noggin...lol

I found that I am much better off back up in the woods where the trails might lead to a food source.

Better yet find some gigantic white oaks that have the dinner plate out and waiting.

God bless,Mudd
