These are the only horns I saw except for the huge bucks by the fire station.
It was too damn hot! 90 one day. I was in Hominy. There were a few deer taken but no huge bucks. I saw 8 does on Friday but it took me 11 hours in the stand to make that happen.

When I was outside working around noon on friday, feelin' the south wind blowin' dry and figured you probably weren't have one those better days hunting.

Not hardly... having the advantage of following along with your adventures through the years I can assure you I pale in significance.   :notworthy:

I had beginners luck the first two years of putting in for MAAP and being draw both times. If the first hunt had gone as BAD as the second hunt I wouldn't have put in for the draws there again.
When its right, buddy its well worth it!

They did the quality pass but I was reluctant to shoot a doe because I would have automatically got the same weekend same area next year. It was like being in South America it was so hot and humid.

There were about 80 hunters of which about 20 were taditional. The rest were crossbow hunters. I guess the other hunts have about 300!

CROSSBOWS??

When did that start?

shawnee

Jim, you should have drilled one if you had a c hance.  A quality pass doesn't eliminate you from drawing again, too.

I know a guy that  hunted there 3 times in one year...  Drew one year and got a quality pass, drew the next year + the quality pass, and shot a doe both weekends.  2 quality passes the next year, plus drew again.

Sure wish I had his luck.  He's in there again the 3rd weekend in Oct.
Well, who'da thunk it!

From the McAlester Ammo Plant website:

"Q11.  Can I use my compound bow?
A11.  No, only recurve & longbows are allowed.  Except for the physically challenged hunt where crossbows are allowed.

Edited: I just saw the controlled hunt info regarding physically challenged bowhunters on the first weekend of the season.

Delete my post if necessary.

Having crossbows mixed in on your weekend must be knew. The crossbow hunters should have had the first opening weekend before you. I also had the impression that the hunter had to have a disability to qualify and the hunt was crossbows only. Oh well, perhaps someone will let us know what happens during the coming weeks.

"I know a guy that hunted there 3 times in one year... Drew one year and got a quality pass, drew the next year + the quality pass, and shot a doe both weekends. 2 quality passes the next year, plus drew again."  That would be GOOD!
