Last night I headed out to my uncles house to hang out and launch some arras! We randomly discovered the fun of shooting at lightning bugs! What great fun and great practice! I highly recommend it for those who haven't tried it!

It surely does sound like a good time....

and maybe a great new way for me to get more opportunities to release more of my precious woodies "back into the wild"...lol

Plus it adds more of a challenge... to finding errant arrows.

It must have been something to see as a bystander two grown men stalking through the yard shooting at bugs! Only can one have that much fun with a stickbow!

Yes indeed.  Great fun shooting for bugs.  My first kill with my longbow was a yellow jacket a bit over 10 yards out.

We used to shoot at bumble bees on the clover in the yard when we were kids. We would even catch them and tie a thread around their body give them about 3 feet of slack tied to a stick.They'ed whip around in circles and we'd shoot at them. Iknow,I know,not fair chase,but give us a break we were just kids,LOL!!  :D

I was sorely disappointed when I went outside tonight... no lightening bugs!!

Bumble bees on clover made for some good fun with judo points. Lightning bugs sounds like fun too. Gonna give that a try, Thanks

I saw Stacy Groscup at the Baltimore shoot one year and got the chance to talk to him and he said one of best ways to practice is shootin' at lightning bugs.

use to use them for practicing with my baseball bat and now with my bow.

When they fly up, or you find green buts on the ground haha

I thought when I read your post, you were going to say you found some way of using their glowing juices to make your arrows more visible.      Sounds like you had fun.

do you loose many arrows doing that?

This is one occasion when you do not want to eat what you kill. The glowing green part is poisonous.
