My wife was at a yard sale and called me to ask if
I was interested in a recurve bow she had found. I asked a few questions, told her what to look for and to call me back when she got a price. She never called, showed up at home with a pristine
Browning Safari 1, 51#'s at 28 ''. $40. This included the original canvas case, the instruction book and a Browning archery equipment catalog in full color. Dated 1968.
I've made a Flemish string for it and was hoping someone could tell me what the proper brace height would be. My draw length is 29 1/2 inches. She's a keeper, so is the bow.

Cyclic-Rivers

Great Find.  My wife would have told be about it a few days later. wait never mind, she hates garage sales.

Not sure about brace but thats a good shooting bow.

The instruction book doesn't have the brace height listed?

Start with the brace height as low as possible.  The bow should be noisy when shot.  Twist up the string until the bow quietens down.  That's your starting point for tuning.

No, I looked the instruction book over , it's not mentioned. However the back page is missing, probably the mail-in warranty card.
I left the string I made on over nite and it's settled on 7 1/2 inches. Nocked it at 5/8 ''. I ran a few 2016's thru it this morning and they did ok. Maybe some more work to do..
I'm excited about learning to use this bow in a ground blind. Come to think about it my wife bought me that afew years ago. This may be a plan to get me out of tree's!

Proud of her? Well you should be.
A nice dinner out in repayment and you'd still be in money on that transaction.

The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Nice score!  I picked up my Browning Wasp at a flea market for $40.

My dad bought one for me at a yard sale 15 years ago, mine is 50# @ 28" and 54" long. It came with some wood arrows with Hilbre broadheads.. I have always had a few bows and don't shoot it often but I think my brace height is around 7 1/2" too.

Hatchet

That is a funny " picher". I guess I'm going to have ask the wife to show me how to post pichers.
I'll do that just as soon as we get back from Micky D's.
Been shooting in between rain showers here in southern WV. I've made some of the changes you guys suggested and the new bow is coming along just fine. Also, I'm used to shooting a Bob Lee Hunter, 49# @ 28. The same arrows,2016's at 32 1/2 " may be a bit long.
We picked up the WV Hunting Regulations this afternoon and I'm excited about taking this bow hunting this year. Good luck this year and shoot straight. When I learn how to post pic's I"ll start new thread.
