Every once in awhile I get a bowhunter magazine freebie in my mail box.

I usually just round file them with doing much looking or reading in them since the cover shots are always compound bow pictures.

I had it in my hand when I went outside to wait for someone who was supposed to be coming to dig some flowers I was giving away. Out of boredom I started to browse through it when an article caught my eye.

The name looked familiar, it was our longbow buddy Rik Hinton.

Great read about how Rik got to where he is with Hill style bows, his wife and last but not least his obsession with elk and Idaho moose.

It was well worth my time!

Thank you Rik for making us all(traditional archer/bowhunters} look not only sane but good...lol

I haven't read the second article yet but you can bet your booties I'm going to be sticking my nose back into the magazine to see what the read about Fred Bear is all about.

God bless,Mudd

PS: and I also want to thank Rik for getting my blood pumping again thinking about someday getting to try my hand at an elk.

Bowhunter is awesome they regularly run trad stories now. One of the editors/contributors is a trad guy as well as one of their other contributors.

Do yourself a favor. Don't ever try hunting elk. It will consume you, almost to the point oif obsession. I've been fortunate enough to hunt a lot of different species in a lot of different places, and to this day there is exactly one animal that I obsess over everyday, year round.
is it September yet??

The magazine I got is called "Extreme Bowhunting World".

You can bet that from now on I won't be just pitching them in the trashcan on my walk back from the mailbox...lol

Now would be a good time for me to get to the Fred Bear article.

For all those guys waiting to go, you are not getting any younger and those mountains are not getting smaller. I wish I started many years sooner. It does become an obsession. Leaving Sept 5-16 cant wait. (60yo, trip #6,  2/5 success)
