I have never footed any carbons, so I thought I would give it a try since I do so much stumping..So, will a 1 inch aluminum  cause any spine change. I wouldn't think that it would, but I just wanted to make sure... also, what size aluminum for a GT 35/55 or beman 500?? Thanks ahead for your response..

I've used carbon collars from 3Rivers as a footing and while they greatly increase the strength of the arrow, they have not affected the dynamic spine of my arrows.

Footing fits tight. get a cutter and go a little at a time. get a deburring tool to clean the edges up. do a search, there is plenty of info about it. I want to say JB WELD was a suggested glue.

Practically, no.

especially since the footing barely extends past where the insert is inside the shaft.

A one inch footing can't change stiffness because it is the same length as the insert.It will add app 12 grs to the front end,so a minor change in dynamic spine.I always put a 1/4" footing on the nock end so the two come close to cancelling each other out.It's just good insurance.

For GT's 35/55 I use some old 2115 or 2117 1" long. 2115 and 2117 use the same inserts so the ID is the same. Taper the trailing edge for a smooth transition to the shaft. I flow some of the Chair Repair I picked up at ACE hardware in between the footing and shaft. It's basically a very thin super glue like Loctite 420 only half the cost. If you use a file or emery cloth on the insert collar you can push the footing over the collar until its flush and when you flow the super glue in the joint it bonds the insert, footing and shaft as single unit.

If it does I can't see it........I do 1" up front and about 3/8 on the nock end......makes 'em pretty tough!

Some good advise here..I chuck mine in a drill & take a little off for this purpose.

Spot on if the footing is 1" or under if you have a much longer footing than you have to take into account that the longer footing is stiffening the shaft without adding a lot of weight.
