Can someone that has a toelke locater grip tell me what it is similar to?  I've owned a mess of bows and the Toelke's one that has eluded me. Just curious if it is similar in feel to any of the other custom bows out there.

Oregon Okie

Not sure what it is like but it's what sold me on the bow. I have a whip but its lefty so might not help much. I'm in Orem.

Feels to me a heck of a lot like a shrew/griffin...

Hobow

I haven't felt a grip like it before myself.  One thing to keep in mind if considering a used Toelke is that Dan requested a tracing of my hand so he could match the grip to it when the bow is built.  A used bow will have a grip sized to the original owner so it may or may not match your hand...

Great bows though!

The Shrew comment is probably accurate.  I hear Caribow's have a good grip too.  For me the only thing that has come close to the grip feel and 'hold it and forget it' awesomeness of a Toelke locator/thumbrest is the grip on a Bob Lee.

I would say the closest I have shot to Dan's grip is a John McCullough Griffin. Dan's grip is great and a good guy to deal with.

I have Shrews & Griffins.  My Tolkes are similar but feel thinner.  All three have incredible grips.

I would agree, overall probably a little thinner

To add to Tippit's comment, I find it thinner, and more rounded/smoother at the right places.

I think that's why Dan asks for a print of your hand.

The locator grip is identical to the Fedora grip.  I believe Dan may have worked with Mike for a period of time.

As Hobow mentioned, when a customer orders a bow Dan requests a hand tracing so not all Toelke grips are the same configuration. Continuing on that note, while fine bows the grip on the Fedora recurve that I have shot was different than any of my Toelke recurves or any of the stock bows I have shot at Dan's shop.

Thanks guys for all the feedback.  I might just give one of those new SS 64's a try.

Can't have mine !

Of course, I don't have mine yet, either.

But I should have it in about 10 days.   :bigsmyl:
