Seems to be a common set up. I'd like to hear some general discussion on it. Yes, I've done searches..that's what led me to post this.

How do you like it? Any issues? What animals are you chasing? Pics? You get the idea....

beachbowhunter

That is pretty much my set up. Couple or three pounds heavier or so. With 250 grains up front I am confident hunting anything from big hogs to elk. Works for me and I no longer worry about those things.

I'm a pound or two under and about 50 grains heavier.  Has worked splendidly on deer and hope to see how it does on elk this fall.

55# Schafer Silvertip, AD Trad with 100 gr brass insert and 300 gr head=about 760gr bare shaft, add nock insert, nock and 4 fletch and I am probably pushing 800gr.

55# at 28, I'm pulling a tad over 29", so closer to 58-59 lbs. in Centaur TD Dark Matter.  Shooting 580 grain set up - Victory VAP with AeroOutsert with internal stainless footing - 300 grain point up front.  Approx. 28% FOC.  Shooting 187 average at 6' from chrony.

Loaded for black bear, hog, deer - most anything short of the truly large critters!

I'm 53@28 on several bows, but pull a little over 29 so I'm right around 55.  Arrows just a whisker over 600g, they're lighter carbons I got cheap with weight tubes installed for 13 gpi on a 30" arrow then add a 125g Snuffer in a 30g insert with a 50g weight attached, 5" tri fletch parabolic.  The econo rig.

Definitely "loaded for bear"

I'm enjoying the replies

I shoot Full Metal Jackets with 200 grain VPA Penetrators with all my 60ish pound bows...that is my setup for moose and elk hunting...I really like the way those shafts and broad heads mate with the hit inserts...I get great flight out of that combo...they weigh right at 600 grains
I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

56#@27" Pronghorn and a 55#@28" Kota recurve both like CE Heritage 150's cut to 28.75" with about 250 grains out front. They shoot nice but I have to admit I have not killed anything with either bow.
I did shoot one buck with the Kota, but a hundred grn broad head failed when I hit bone. No longer use that- I went up to a 160 grn two blade.

Cari-bow SLynx 55lb @ my 28" draw , CX Heritage 250's, 50 gr inserts 200 gr broadheads (595 gr total arrow weight).  This is my setup for the hunts I have planned this year...bear next week, moose and deer in the fall.  Hopefully, hogs in early 2014.

Prairie Drifter

I'll be taking a Rocky Mtn Recurve that Maddog just made limbs for to Africa this August. 56#@ 26". 2020 legacy shaft w/ a 200gr broadhead flies real nice . Just over 600grs.

53#@28" Widow PL, 62". 29" Easton carbon w/100 gr. brass insert and 250 VPA 3 blade. 630 gr. and I've taken several whitetail, 2 caribou and a 120#ish hog. Complete pass thrus on all but one deer and I hit the off side leg bone on that one. The 2 caribou were actually shot with 125 gr. Wensel Woodsmans (same profile as the VPA) with 125 gr. glue in adapters bringing the total head weight to 250 gr. Hope to try this set up out on Colorado elk this Sept. Mike

I've got a 54 @ 28 that I draw at a little over 30, my setup is 350 Carbon Express Heritage 12gpi arrow at full length (32) 100gr brass insert, 125gr head, 3 5inch shield feathers and gold tip nocks.

Whole package comes in at about 640 grains, works very well for that weight.

55 lb Blacktail, 560 grains  Gold tip arrows with 245 gn up front, WW heads.

Shot thru enough elk to have great confidence in my equipment.

What size Aluminum Arrow would you have to use to get a 600gr arrow with 55# setup? Everyone tells me my 520gr Cedars are enough but I like alot of weight! I dont see where a heavier arrow can hurt.
The Stuttering Bowhunter

55# wild horse creek "hawk", gt 5575 cut to 29, 300 up front. Get great flight. Right around 600 grains.

dhermon85

You can get there with a 2117 but I had to load up the front as well.

52# Fedora Recurve...545 grain arrows
57# Groves and 58# Kempf T/D...585--615 grain arrow

125/135 grain Zwickeys and 160 grain Snuffers. I like the quietness and penetration heavier arrows provide.
