I was driving across the prairie towards the woods where I intended to go for a walk. When I was passing this old shallow ditch I looked down it and saw a couple of pigs, whoa !!!!

I stopped the truck and considered my options. The sun was still way up in the sky, it was about 7pm.. I had the wind in my favor but would be looking straight into the bright sun. I had absolutely no cover but I had to try..

I strung my bow and slipped into my quiver and took off. The pigs were about 300 yards away so I was able to make good time for the first 200 yards. Then I had to slow down, get quiet and get low.. I got to within 40 yards of the first sow and stopped. I thought she would feed right down the ditch towards me.. So I got down on my knees and sat with my legs folded up under me.
As the sow got closer I kept leaning farther over trying to disappear. By the time she was 20 yards I was bent over nearly kissing the ground.. I had my Hill bow out in front of me holding it horizontally maybe a foot off the ground.
There was a bush about 12 yards from me and when she went behind it I put "tension on the string." As she emerged she immediatly saw me and gave a grunt but then went back to feeding, apparently not believing her eyes! She was quartering to me but this was it.. I drew the bow until I felt the back of the broadhead touch the index finger of my bowhand and released the string. The arrow had a short flight and hit a bit higher than I was aiming. She wheeled and took off.. I stood and watched her stop about 100 yards away.. She slowly laid down.
Hmm, I waited a few then started her way.. When I got within 30 yards I could see her but she was facing straight away, no shot.. I kept creeping up on her, it was evident she was still alive.. When I closed in under 15 yards I side stepped a few and she heard me. She jumped up and was broadside for a second. Immediately my second arrow took her behind the shoulder. She moved off a few yards and sagged down and died within moments.
This was my 66" Wesley that is 57 or 58 lbs and a Zwickie Delta..

What a great Memorial Day!  God Bless our troops, past and present.

I have seen one pig in the wild. Two if you count the dead shoat I saw on the Hill hog hunt.

Pat, you make it look like such a simple task. You are the hog slayer!

That is a very nice sow!

Good eyes catchin' 'em in the bar ditch, great stalk, and great outcome.  Very nice you were probably able to drive right to her.  Happy eatin'!
