Hello everyone! First time posting here and I have been only shooting modern recurve for 7 months and I was tempted to go towards traditional recurve after trying to shoot a Bear Grizzly. I won't be abandoning my lovely recurve any time soon but I sorely miss the lightness and the instinctive aspect of traditional shooting. Any opinion or recommendation for starter traditional bow other than the Bear Grizzly? I'm thinking of starting with quite a low poundage since my current draw weight with the recurve is 37 lbs and I'm only pulling it at 26 inch.  

I started with a Samik Sage Recurve @ 35#($130.00), moved up to 45#, then 55#. I feel comfortable with that weight and now have a Robertson on the way, 55 @ 27...

I was given a recommendation on Samick Sage, but it's practically non-existent in UK at the moment ever since the company went down...    :(

not sure what your budget is. but id check out the classifieds or you might find somthn on the st judes auction. id say 40 to 45# would  be a good start.. dont get to fancey with your first. good  luck  

I would look at used Martin/Howatt bows. They are pretty good bows and some of them are priced right. Gary

For a new bow that fits you I would recommend Mad dog bows,he'll work with you to get the fit just right.

  Maybe don't get a high dollar bow until you settle on what draw weight you want.  I steadily moved up in draw weight my first 2 years of archery, now I know I'm staying here.......ok, just 3 more pounds and that's it! Lol (I got a custom Maddog bow on the way, so you bet I'm stopping at 62#).  

 Oh yeah, get your form squared away now and don't do it all wrong for 2 years like me.  Study proper form and do yourself a huge favor for health and accuracy sake.  Lots of resources on this site alone.   Cheers

get some help on form and i have to recommend Masters of the Barebow Vol 3 as one of the best for that....I have them all but that one spoke to me the most.

Welcome to Trad Gang. You will get lots of good advice about great performing equipment from the members here. Also, study the classifieds, and you just may find a good deal on a very nice bow here on this site.

We were all newbs once and possibly others are like me are newbs for life. The long-time passion has effected me that each day I am fortunate to shoot is new untamed experience.
