Can anyone here recommend a good folding bone saw?  Looking for something that fits nicely into a day pack but still strong enough to sever heads, legbones etc.

Looking at an item at Cabellas: Gerber Skin/Saw/Gut knife combo. Looks pretty good for $50.  But maybe there is something even better out there.

Thanks

I got a cheap one for 5$ at a hardware store in NY.  It's one of those that has 3 blades- Wood, bone and a hack.  I've had it for 5 or 6 years and have had it into 15 or 20 deer.  I'd say it was well worth the money.  I don't remember any brand, but I'll take a look.
Good luck.

I second the Wyoming saw. Helped dress a friends Elk in colorado recently and I was impressed with the small saw we cut all 4 legs off and split the sternum also. Comes apart and rolls up pretty compact.

I have used the Wyoming saw for about 10 years. Works great. The long version tends to wonder when cutting the spine but the short version is great.

I have bee using the gerber folding saw for years. It comes with a bone blade and a wood blade. I have never had any trouble with it and it has never failed me. You can buy the saw by itself for 19.99 at most wal-mart's.

I've got one like Chad's and it works fine for me.  Most times though, I just take 'em apart with a knife and don't even use the saw.

I fail to understand why anyone needs a bone saw? You can disjoint with a knife. And why not save yourself a lot of time and energy by just de-boning the animal leaving the skeleton and such for the birds. A 200 lb animal will be reduced to a 100 lbs.

Bob,

Think elk...think cutting off the skull plate so you can just take the antlers along with the cape instead of the whole head or head and neck on one of the pack trips.  Heck, most of the guys here would just strap that 200lb deer on their back without cutting it up   :goldtooth:
