I need to make a power lam outta a wood that I'm hoping will come close to matching the lighter color in Macassar ebony.

...I'm thinking bubinga?...

Have any better thoughts?

Thanks

Would staining a wood the tone and color you are looking for work in this application?

Not really wanting to stain.
I guess it could be done.
I'd be worried about glue seepage keeping the stain from penetrating.

Thanks for the thought though.

Macassar can vary a lot in color. The one I have has dark brown wood w/ black grain lines and tan sapwood. So light to dark, lol.

Which does your riser block have?

I don't have it yet..
But you have opened my eyes to the variation in color.
Seems most I've ever seen was med dark brown with a hint of reddish orange and then black streaks.

I make my PL's out of the same material as the tapers. So far I have only used Amberboo for the PL's

I had a bow made with it and used waterfall bubinga.  Looked great.  My ebony was darker with some black grain lines and not much in the way of  lights.

Buninga or myrtle should match, or a lighter piece of shedua?

Sixby

Tigerwood is a good match for the mac I have had.

I wasn't sure if mac would function as a wedge.
If it did...problem solved.
