Took my daughter out for opening day of turkey season this morning. She's been practicing with her calls for quite a while now.She called a hen right up to within 2'the blind. Then brought 2 jakes in (she was whispering,Shoot,SHOOT!! to me,LOL!) I told her that there were some nice gobblers around and let's pass on them.About an hour later we heard a gobble way off,we both started calling and brought 3 nice toms in,they hung up about 80 yards out in the field.Every time I yelped and cut they would gobble but not move."Beans"(my daughter) started to cluck and purr and they slipped right into the decoys and we had 2 more toms come in from the side of us.
A nice Tom strutted around behind our jake decoy and his head was glowing in the sun(nice target!)I shot and a 160 Snuffer through the noggin put him right down.He flopped to within 4 or 5 yards off the blind and all the other Toms jumped on him.Would have been a slam dunk for another shot, but I wanted to save my other tags so I can go out with Beans as many times as we can this season. We both had a blast and this was easily my best hunting day ever! So proud of her not only for calling them in,but for staying in the cold.It was about 39 degrees when we left this morning and the wind was blowing right into the blind window at about 15mph this morning. I was cold never mind her! I asked her at about 8am if she wanted to leave because I could see she was cold and I got "NO WAY!!!" Sorry to ramble on so long, but I'm 1 happy dad right now!

nice. what part of ct are you in? i don't think im going to be able to get out for turkey this year. no hunting after noon or on sundays... and i got soccer games to coach every saturday morning... may have to play hookey from work a day or two.

Used my Pete George "BamYew" bow, 66" 64# at my draw,Tapered cedar arrow with a 160 Snuffer.
The call was built by a friend of mine.

Echatham, I'm from Seymour. My older daughter was into sports big time, this one has no interest. Only wants to hunt and fish

Congrats! Its very cool that you got to harvest your turkey with your daughter.

Goshawkin

Thanks Jesus, She's mad she has to wait until she's 12 to try for her own! Well,I gotta run.I played hookey from work and she did from school,so instead of wasting the rest of the day we're taking a trip to the zoo.

Hopewell Tom

Good thing you had her along, might not have happened without her calling skills...
I love that answer on the leaving early question. You're going to have a lot of fun with her around.
Nice going, Dad.

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Very cool story!  Congrats to both of you!

Congrats on the bird, and more so on the expert caller you have.  Enjoy your times together!!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
