So I received the aluminum for footing (thanks buckeyeguy!) Bought some original jb weld to glue them and the inserts into place. The footing slides on perfectly, except I think its pushing all the jb weld when I slide the footing into place! Anybody have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

This is just what I do when doing inserts and I just recently did some footing. I used Gorilla Glue and I put most of it towards the front and when I slide it on it smears it from the front to the back and the whole thing gets covered. You may even slide it back and forth some and turn it to get full coverage.

It doesn't take a lot of epoxy if the surfaces are prepped.I sand the shaft lightly with 220 grit and a little bit inside the footing if I remember.I have some footings that are extremely press fit and they hold.

You may be pushing a lot of glue out but the void between footing and shaft is still full of glue.You will be fine.

I always try to spin and move it up and down a few times.  Then clean up the excess with some denatured alcohol.

That works for me too. The tighter the footing is the better. It takes just a thin film of glue to hold it. I've never had one let go that I put on with JB Weld. I usually use the quick weld variety. Either one is more than strong enough to hold footings on a shaft. It will break somewhere else long before the JB will let go!

I was spinning the footing as I slid it up the shaft. If it doesn't set by the time I get home tonight I will apply the jb weld to the inside of the footing with a cotton swab or something.

When I started footing carbons I used JB Weld, I now use Gorilla Glue Super Glue, it's a bit thinner and I haven't had a footing move with either.

I slide the footing on the shaft and past the point of bond. Place Gorilla Super Glue onto the shaft and then slide the footing towards the insert/end of shaft. Excess wiped away with paper towel. 2117 footing fits so tightly on 3555 shafts there's not much room for glue to get in there. It squeegees the glue away almost.

The bad thing about JB weld it is not heat reversable. That is OK for footing but inserts once they are in they are in forever. Shawn

The other bad thing about the JB weld is that it is pretty thick. I would think a thinner epoxy, without the filler would cling better with such a tight fit???  Maybe??

I never glued my footings in place... Just slid them over a same length cut of arrow wrap... Works fine... Guess I got lucky...
