I am soon going to be taking my family on vacation and was thinking of purchasing a Wensel book to pass the time in the mornings.  I have never read any of their books and was wondering if anybody could recommend one to me or any other traditional archery books?

Hunting the Hard Way, Howard Hill: the man the legend, Hunting with the Bow and Arrow, Man Made of Elk.

Do a quick search of Pow Wow and you will find a few threads with great recommendations.

'And the horse you rode in on " is a pretty funny book front those characters   if you want great whitetail advice and humor any of the other books will do.

You can't go wrong with any of the Wensel books.
Once upon a Tine or Buckskin and Bone are the latest one's.  Both are

Tom Kidwell's "Old Bowhunter" books
Many, many good reads

Thanks guys! I met the Wensels at the Pennsylvania outdoor show last year and really regret not buying one of their books.  Thanks for the advice and now I will try to research some of the ones you all mentioned above!

I have always enjoyed G.Fred Asbell's writing as much as anybody. Especially his stories about hunting.  I do not know if he has ever compiled a list of his magazine articles, but if not he should.  I don't think he gets enough credit for his writing- he tells a very good tale.

Any of the books by Tom Kidwell or Don Thomas.  Jay Campbell's book is a great read as well as "Silence of the String".

"Once Upon a Tine" is a great book as well!

I Highly reccommend Mike Mitten's book One With The Wildeness, Bows Of the Little Delta, Any of Roger Rothhaar's and the Wensels.

how about a book with some trad archers of times past.   Book about Comanches called

empire of the summer moon

excellent read about some very proficient archers who did much of it on horseback with truly primitive weapons makes me think i need to chill out when I start to obsess about tuning issues or some other technical part of archery.  I need to shoot more and think/read less.  Less info more loosing arrows

This is my favorite.

Read Saxton Pope's book "Hunting with the bow & arrow".  He was a Dr., Educated, and a great writer, will get your blood rushing.

Once Upon a Tine by Barry Wensel....well worth the read

I think Jay Campbell's book Longbow is a must read

Don Thomas' books are all good- Longbow Country was
my favorite of his but How Sportsmen Saved the World
should be required reading.

Mark Baker's Tension on the String is like sitting around the
campfire with one of the great DIY hunters out there.

Tim Lewis' Bows, Swamps and Whitetails is like a modern adaptation of Witchery of Archery with the venue being Florida's beautiful and wild St Johns River basin.

That should give one a good start with a variety of writing styles with venues from Alaska to Florida.
