How do I go about getting rid of my arrows fishtailing?  I don't seem to have the best arrow flight.  I shoot a Maddog, left hand recurve, 47#@28" Goldtip 5575 at 30" with a 225 gr tip.  Any help? Please!

If your arrows are tailing to the left,  and your draw length is 28" or less, your arrow might be too stiff, need more information to say for sure.

  • Leon Stewart 3pc. 64" R/D 51# @ 27"
  • Gordy Morey 2pc. 68" R/D 55# @ 28"
  • Hoyt Pro Medalist, 70" 42# @ 28" (1963)
  • Bear Tamerlane 66" 30# @ 28" (1966)- for my better half
  • Bear Kodiak 60" 47# @ 28"(1965)

Process of elemination!

Your shafts may be either to stiff or to weak.
Suggestion: Get a nice variety of different tip weights above and below 225 grains, and play around untill you find your sweet spot. If you have to add to much weight you may have to drop down to 3555's.

Your brace height may be either to high or to low.
Suggestion: Call maddog archery and find out where the minium brace height is. Coordinate this suggestion with the one above.

Could be your release.
Suggestion: Make sure the first two suggestion are addressed, and then watch your release. Make sure your not plucking the string. Watch Moebow on youtube.

Hope this helps.

I tried 5575s on the recurve I draw to about 47# and couldn't get them tuned. They were just too stiff for my bow, so I went down to 3555s and am having much more luck.
Take care,
Jeff

X3... The 3555's will fly great @ that weight. I'm shooting a 150gr head on 29" off the shelf of a Ben Pearson 7330 T/D, 50# @ 28, 58" AMO. The 3555's fly great out of my Kodiak Mag 50# and my Super Mag @ 45# as well.

I am moving this to the PowWow for more answers...

Way to stiff of an arrow!! You can shoot a 35/55 cut to 30"s with at least 225 up front, if not more. I would say if you draw 28"s you could even shoot a 15/35 cut to 29"s with 175-225 of point weight. Shawn

Assuming you have a draw that is at least 29" or less, I'd agree.  Way to stiff.
Might look at 30" CE Heritage 150's with 175-200 up front.
