I found this bow in the Classifieds last Sat...  Read what it was, specs were good, and the price was to good to pass up...  So, a few PM's later the bow was heading my way and $'s heading the other...

Bow arrived yesterday, Black Widow SA III, 58", and 61# - 62# at my draw length.  Even though it was made in '96 you would be hard pressed to know it.  Overall the bow is in better then good shape... very pleased...  It came with a regular DF97 string and what looks like a brand new "skinny" string...  Don't know the make of the "skinny" string, but maybe Glenn will chime in...

Anyway, I put it together, strung it up with the "skinny" string, adjusted brace a bit, replaced the silencers with Hush Puppies, and put a nock on...  Looked the bow up and down quite a bit last night...  rekindled a lot of good memories...

Anyway again, being today is my day off, after getting my "to do" list done this AM I got to get out and shoot.  I had an arrow combination I thought would  get me pretty close, and I was right!  From the first shot it was like the arrow had a tracking device attached.  Probably shot 100 or so arrows from all different ranges, and they just dropped in time and time again.

Also, having never shot my old SA's with a "skinny" string the bow itself has a different quality I was never really used to from when I shot them before... It is quiet!  That was the main reason I switched to the longbow when I did... just couldn't get the curve quiet.  But, this bow with that string is the ticket!

I took a few pics, this was two shot group, 25 yards with the first and I took about three steps towards the target and shot the second arrow... so  21-22 yards or so...

I think I'll go shoot some more!    :archer2:

I Had an old Widow that I bought used at Whittingham a few years ago, tough to beat that old girl....should have kept her! Looks like you got a nice one!

I saw that bow, You almost didn't get it.   :bigsmyl:

Very nice bow, God bless, Steve

PM'ed with Glenn this afternoon and the "skinny" string is one he made for it himself... 10 strand Ultracam that is padded to 16 in the loops.  It really does make a difference quieting the bow down...  Only thing I think will be a problem is I think this bow will cost me money!  I've wanted to try a PCH for quite a while, now that I know it will be quiet I want to try one all the more!

Sixby, yeah when I seen the add I knew I had to jump if I wanted it!

I kept waiting for the part where you realized you used to own the bow a long time ago after finding your name on the riser.   :biglaugh:

Found a pic of my old SA III, that one was 60" and 57# @ 28"...  My draw length was a bit shorter then, and I was shooting split finger then too...

Drawing down on a real sneaky McKenzie target when we lived in AK, circa '99...

Owned a few other SA's during that time too...

Well, I'm an old stubborn longbow guy, but you fellows with the widows sure do get me to wondering sometimes. That is really good shooting. It is apparent you have a real winner.

funny, I just got back my old PSA, 60" 60@28 I shouldnt have ever sold it, but the owner was kind enough to let me trade back for it. I put on a SBD skinny string that I had on my other bow, and just like you said, its dead quiet with a 620 gr 2020 and i can just drill with this bow...i cant imagine a better bow for me. I also had pretty well gone to longbows to keep a quiet bow, i am really excited to get this one back and set up. Congrats on your find as well... Dont sell it ! i learned my lesson
