One wood I have not seen on complete limb is snakewood. Anybody got a bow with snakewood veneers?

Only on the belly...ya can't use it as a back. It will not handle it, and will pop like crazy, you will see lines under the glass all the way down the limb.
The wishbone will never replace the backbone.

I had snakewood footed veneers on a Blacktail Snakebit.He uses that on thise quite a bit.The whole veneer is not snakewood though.

You may wish to use heavy fiddle back koa instead if you cannot get the snake; Its much prettier imho as it just glows like its on fire; and it won't be detrimental to the bow;

Problem with snakewood beside it being one of the most unstable woods that there is is getting it in any size or lengths. Its mostly available in small pieces; I can honestly say that I have not seen any long enough to make a limb veneer. However if anyone could get it it would be Norm Johnson. He seems to have a pretty good lock on it; He may be stabilizing it or having it stabilized too.

God bless you all, Steve

i found someone who has some and may sell me some but maybe this wood should not be used for full veneers.  awefully expensive for problems later.

thanks for info

I have a Big Jim Thunder Child that has Snakewood veneers front and back.  Actually the Big Guy was building this for his personal bow (I was able to sweet talk him out of it).

Granted, only approx. 4-500 arrows to date, but no issues, and I, personally, am not concerned about any.  If a bowyer like Big Jim feels comfortable with it, then it must work!    ;)

Very nice snakewood in that Thunderchild.
Saw a all snakewood bow and quiver built by Bob Thompson.Was the heaviest mass weight Zipper I've ever handled.

The top part of this Blacktail recurve has snakewood and the lower part is lacewood.
