Time well spent with my beloved whitetails

Due to life and lots of obligations, I have had little time to spend with the deer. But lately I have had some more time to scout. I love to be able to scout in the post season. In the Midwest, the sign is there to be read by anyone willing to learn. It is the most relevant time to scout in my opinion. I felt a bit sad that what used to seem so natural has felt a bit foreign since I have not been able to do as much recently. But the tides turn. Learning is culmalitive  For whitetails, post season scouting is the hunting in my opinion. Sitting on post is reaping the benefits. Man I feel good. Get out there now guys. Intel is much easier to gain now. And it's good for the soul!  Have fun kids!

How true!

Jon,

Thanks for the reminder.  I needed to get my arse out of the bow building shop and into the field. Biggest problem is I should spend that time looking for/acquiring new places so I don't over hunt the same places.  One should have, at minimum, half a dozen places to hunt.  Due to "attrition" I am down to three.

In three weeks, like yourself in two weeks, I will be in school with one of the masters.  I think the  time spent with Uncle Barry, regarding hunting whitetails, will be the most productive for myself, EVER!
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Very True John.  I was hoping to get a little time this weekend to check out the public land where I shot my first deer this year.  The farm I spent so much time on has 1 set of tracks from 2 weeks ago, I will not spend much time trying to get deer there next year.

This stress fracture in my foot is going to prevent any scouting in the next week or two, which stinks since we have a fresh blanket of snow.

Heres a few from the family farm.

Relax,

You'll live longer!

Nice pictures Charlie!  I'm getting anxious to get back in the timber, but our hillsides are very slippery now.  We need a little warm sun to be able to walk safely.     :goldtooth:

Precisely what I will be doing tomarrow. The temp is supposed to hit 50 degrees and I need to get out. Some key areas I want to check on my neighboring state land.A few days scouting this time of year can tell you more about deer than a few years of hunting.Especially with snow on the ground. I'll be keeping an eye out for the stretch necks as well.

Couldn't agree more ! Definitely one of my favorite times of the year to be out shed hunting and scouting. I can go into forbidden places now that were off limits in hunting season !

It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.
