I am looking for a new adventure and was thinking about combining a moose hunt up there with a Ruffed Grouse hunt with my dog towards the mid-end of September.. Having flyfished in Canada a few times I am sort of wary about all their outfitter practices, but the same could be said for us as well.

Any way, I would appreciate any input in thinking about this. I don't care to score the next Pope and Young record, but I would like to have a decent chance at a moose of some sort. I will be checking this place out for grouse elsewhere unless you kind souls have something to offer.

Thanks.

Hunted that area for a few years . There are lots of moose and the grouse can be plentiful some years.Chad at Pasha Lake Cabins is a great fella . He is from South Dakota I believe and may be able to fix you up !

I am been there to hunt bear and to fish in the summer. Locals told me they have some moose there, but not sure about the quality of the hunt.

Brad Greaves at Ignace Outposts had good fly in hunting trips when I used to go. I would call and ask for references though.

Yes, I've bear & moose hunted and fished there back in the late 80's. Beautiful area for sure. Not sure what's going on now but back then lots of moose and lots of dandy bulls. Be sure your outfitter is able to secure the type of tag you're looking for. (bull/cow or calf) Also, get yourself a wolf tag as well.

Have you got an outfitter in mind?

I was looking at Pasha Lake Cabins for the combo.

Looks like a great place. Good luck with your decision!

The moose archery season usually is during the rut. If you can learn to make a cow call I think you would see more bulls if you have a  bull tag.

Look at White River Air, in White River Ont. Just a little east of Nipigon. I've been archery moose hunting with these guys for 20yrs. During last years archery hunt we tagged three bulls in two days! They will look after you well, a great family run operation with fantastic equipment/camps and a turbo otter and beaver as well.

They have two web site - White river air and North to Adventure.
