I am in need of a armguard.  Any recommendations.  I liked the looks of the Tred Barta model.  Anyone have one.  Thanks in advance.

Scott Teachsner of Wyoming Wildlife Artistry makes armguards that are absolute works of art. His Craftsmanship and attention to detail are never done justice by pictures, you have to see one.

Definitely do your self a favor and check out Jim's suggestion about Wyoming Wildlife Artistry.  I have one of their armguards and it is truly the nicest armguard I've ever used.  You can get by with a simple piece of leather (or plastic), but Scott's work is much more of a work of art.  Its an investment, but you may very well hand it down to your kids some day!

Those are nice but I am just looking for a good quality functional guard.  I think if I got one of Scotts arm guards I'd have to mount it on the wall.

You could mount it, its that nice but I bought 4 or 5 arm guards which weren't that good or versatile with different thicknesses, etc. until I found Scott and it just works great as well as looks great. Like finding a supermodel/good girl-best friend for a wife.

Yep.  Scott's armguards are $100 take or give $20.  That said they are functionally perfect and perfectly beautiful.  If you are just starting out and have a bunch of equipment to buy then just make due on armgaurds.  If you have been in this game for even a relatively short amount of time buy a Wyoming Wildlife Artisrty armgaurd and be done with it for life.  They are beautiful and worth the price af admission.

Here ya go.  They are a sponsor and the guards are great!  Comfortable and will last.  While your there pick up a Big Shot glove and you'll be set for a LONG time!!!

Mikes stuff looks great.  Problem is the Latigo Hunter that I like is discontinued for now.

Have a few of Scott Teaschners armguards and they are a work of art. For a less expensive armguard I was always a fan of the Wolverine/Grizzly armguards, don't know if they're still made. Bought a bunch of them several years go and haven't seen them since.

Thanks for all the posts guys! It truly amazes me that when leather and armguard questions are asked how my name is brought up over and over! It really means a great deal too me! Thanks.

You would think with an armguard being a rather simple piece of equipment that it would be easy to get right and anyone you picked up should just work! But they don't and that is why I started building them.

These are the things I found wrong in most armguards. They could have one or all the problems involved. You have to think what does it do? For the most part it holds heavy hunting clothes in when hunting and protect your arm from an occasional slap in the summer when wearing t-shirts or light clothing. That's is its job period! So here is the list of things I set out to correct.

1.) Most armguards I owned were too long. This inhibited natural movements when hunting or shooting.

2.) Armguards that are of heavy leather and are flat take years to break in. The last time I looked my forearm was not flat!

3.) Lacing system was a chore too put on and even harder to adjust from light clothes to heavy hunting clothes.

4.0) Incorrect leathers for the application. Latigo is not a leather you want against your Skin. It bleeds all the fat lacquers on to your clothes and skin it is a leather designed to be used up against the side of working animals not people!

5.) There may be more but I can't think of any at the moment.

So how I fixed these problems? It took a little and I built a bunch and they ended up in the can!

1.) First I fixed the length. If you need an armguard from your chin to the back of your wrist you need to hire Rod Jenkins! If your shooting correctly you should have little or no string slap. My armguard allows you to do things like pull arrows, climb a tree or bring your Bino's to your face. You can do this with out the thing cutting into your wrist or elbow. I even swept it back in the front to give more wrist relief. I have done a bunch of measuring of people and the difference in the length of a persons forearm between a shorter and taller person is small nothing to adjust for. My armguard will fit most except maybe the smallest and the largest of people.

2.) My armguards although they are lined and stitched and seem substantial are very comfortable to wear. That is because I wet form them so they naturally fit your forearm. They will always retain this shape (unless you constantly work at flattening them). This is basically breaking them in so you wont have too!

3.) I feel this part of my armguard is revolutionary! I was so tired of lacing and tying and untying knot's. Some had several holes you fed the shock cord through and to adjust it you need and awl to get under the cord. Just not very functional! I was not very happy even with my first armguards system and things kind of morphed. The brass buttons that are on my guards are designed by me. I could not find anything I liked. I used antler on the firsts but it did not allow for an adjustable system and quality of antler varied to much for any kind of production. So I drew up a technical drawing of the brass button I wanted and I have them made for me and they are not cheap but worth it! So now how to make it adjustable? Well I played around with everything and then it hit me! Man so simple but it works great. Just a simple leather keeper the shock cord runs through and goes around the button. Its a much smaller hole then the cord but when you pull it skinnies up the cord and it slides around the button and when you let go the cord fattens up and it is tight will not slip! Very fast very simple the way it should be! The only concerns I have heard is that people wonder about the height of the buttons. I have never had and issue I have never had a complaint from anyone who has bought one. I feel it is a non issue and mainly just an unwarranted concern from someone who has not tried my armguard.        

4.)They are lined with a soft garment grade leather. This leather is designed to be next too your skin. It wont bleed nasty dies and oils it absorbs sweat and is extremly comfortable even in hot weather! It beats plastic even if it is vented.

With all my leather gear I put a lot of thought and time into designing even the simple things. I use the highest quality materials and use my skills in leather to build what I call "High Grade Gear". I stand behind everything I build if you buy it and for some reason it does not meet your expectations send it back! I am proud to say I have never had a return and I am very proud of that! I offer a service to anyone who buys my gear. If it needs some TLC just pack it up with return shipping and I will clean, oil, and put a new finish on at no charge! You may spend a little more with me but it beats having something that does not work or hold up. My gear will be handed down to the next generation guaranteed!

Randy Burtis (FerretWYO) put his armguard through the ringer over the past couple of years. I will be seeing Randy this month at our state banquet. I will take before and after pictures of his armguard just to show you how well they clean up!
