I am getting a new to me recurve in a few days. It is 55@28. And cut past center a hoyt dorado.
With my 27" draw I am looking at 52#. I am going to get some Beman ics bowhunter shafts. Should I go with the 400 and just start adding point weight or will they be too stiff.
Thanks

If ya leave a .400 full length you will still need quite a bit of point wieght. I have owned that same bow and mine was 54#s at my 28.5" draw. I shot .500 spine 29.5"s with 190 grain up front. I would think if you cut a .500 spine to 28.5"s around 225 grains of point weight would be about perfect, you may even need a tad more weight so a footing and an insert would get ya around 245-250 which may be the ticket. I agree with Shawn.  You could probably get .400s to shoot, but you are going to have a lot of tip weight.  I would try .500s first.

That is my exact setup and they shoot great for me with 50 grn brass insert and 125 grn head. My arrows are cut to 29"
And in the end when i can no longer draw the bow or watch the arrow embark on its flight;when i posses only the spirit of the hunter, i will hunt.... if only in my dreams... because the hunt is born amidst my soul, and i... i am the hunter

you could use 500's if you dont want to add any weight up front

I agree with Shawn - .500 and you WILL need a heavy point up front.

My hunting arrows are 400's full length with 50 grn brass insert with 130 grn grizzly's.
They fly great... for target I use a 125 grn field point
my bow at my draw is 54#
Hopefully you will see me as a better person today than I was yesterday..
