I went to the Colorado Bowhunters Association Banquet last night.  Nathon Andersohn was the keynote speaker.  When the banquet ended I was the final bidder on this beautiful selfbow.

It was made and donated by a bowyer and well known bowhunter and outfitter here in SW Colorado, Jake Powell.

It is made from Osage with a python snake skin backing.  It is about 60# at 28" and shoots like a dream.  It is my first selfbow.  I have always had a dream of making my own, but so far that hasn't worked out.  This bow will give me some motivation to make that dream a reality.

Thanks to Jake for the donation.  Hopefully I may get a chance to take it out hunting for a big Merriam gobbler in a couple of months.

Wow that's beautiful. Hope I do as well at our banquet later this month......

Really though, I can't complain. Last year I did win a raffle for an elk antler lamp, made by "Shedrock" here. Its one of my prized posessions.
is it September yet??

I did take it out Sunday afternoon and fling a few arrows with it.  They all hit the target and I lost none in the snow.  I shot about 40-45 arrows and it shoots like a champ.  I didn't know what to expect, but it draws and shoots as smoothly and accurately as many of my laminated bows.  I definitely think a hunt or two with this beauty will be in order this year.

Pat,

That was one nice bear Jake killed with his selfbow!  So maybe I ought to take this one bear hunting in the fall.

Actually, I'm just hoping for a bit of luck drawing a ram tag this year.  I'm overdue for another sheep license.

The banquet was very nice and was in Ignacio, right in my backyard.
