Hello, I'd like to get about 10gpp on my Hill longbow. RIght now I have ones that are 12gpp.
Who makes quality wood arrows for 43#?
I spoke to Dave at Wilderness (great arrows) but he was telling me he deals in surewood, and those were heavy.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Spruce is light; Hildebrandt is a supplier-you will have to google.

Wapiti archery, if your draw is around 28" or less you can get by with 35-40s with 125 up front, just keep the arrows to a minmum length.  My wife arrows are 40 to 42 spine and 420 grains.

Flying Dutchman

Sitka Spruce is light, very strong and easy to straighten. They are also consistent in weight. I am in the spine range between 53 and 60 for my bows. Lenght is 29.5 BOP, crown dip, 100 grains fieldtip and 4 inch feathers. Sealed with 3 layers of Tung-oil.

They are around the 450 grains. As rule of thumb I would say the shafts are at 11 GPI max.
For 43 lbs you will probably lower in weight, lets say 10.5 GPI.
It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that string! [/i]

Talk with Magnus. He was able to make some fantastic wood arrows for my wifes 36# longbow....they were made out of douglas fir, too. He will be able to easily hook you up. He made me a set for a 43# Hill Cheetah.

Talk to Paul at Elite Arrows. His number is (248) 689-1229. Great service and great arrows.

McDave

Suzanne St Charles, the daughter of Glenn St Charles, makes great arrows from Sitka spruce. I had her make some up for me in 45-50# spine in 11/32 tapered to 5/16 that I shoot with 100 grain points out of my 41# longbow. These are the lightest wood arrows I have found for this bow. Since your Hill is not centercut as much as my longbow, it's possible that 40-45# spine might work better for you.
