Pat B.

I was able to get away for a walk again this evening so took advantage of the free time.  And walk I did. Made a big loop trying to keep the wind in my favor. Most of the time it was either in my face or cross wind at worst. After making maybe two miles I came out onto a right of way and about 1/2 a mile down the opening I saw a small group of pigs. They were in the direction I was going so I started towards them. I never expected them to be there long enough to get on them.  True to form, they moved off when I was about 300 yards from them.. I considered just heading back to the truck but decided I would try to cut them off so cut an angle to intercept them in the direction I thought they were going.

I went into sneak mode and slipped through the woods as quickly and quietly as possible. The grass was at least a foot tall which should have made for quiet walking but I couldn't see the sticks and twigs buried in the long grass. I wasn't being as quiet as I would have liked but needed to cover some ground so kept at it.

After a while I spotted the pigs up ahead and again moved left to try and intercept their direction of travel. I slowed down and tried not to alert them with noise or movement. I was keyed on one nice sow but as I closed on her a small group moved between my targeted pig and me..  I knew that they were going to get downwind soon and the jig would be up.

This little sow moved by at 25-30 yards out and paused to snuffle something on the ground. I concentrated just about her "knuckle", drew the bow, and released quickly. The arrow looked good all the way but did drop a bit lower than my aimed spot. When it hit, however I saw that it was good. She took off running and by the time she made 20 yards she stumbled but caught herself and kept going. She made another 10 steps or so and flipped. The 63 pound Hill and 170 grain Kodiak Grizzy is filling the freezer !

Oh, Terry said, "if you live in a state where you can't hunt pigs, MOVE!"  I enjoyed  that old video.. Thanks Chuck !!!

I'm carrying two different arrows and will shoot either.

One is the CE Heritage 250 with the 170 grain grizzly and the other is the GT 5575 with the griz.  Both are 30 1/2" long.

Whew, you have been putting a hurt on the Texas pigs!
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
