With the snow and ice we are getting here in indiana tonight and tomorrow I figured I would spend the day tomorrow fletching some arrows. What distance do most of you use between your feather and the nock. I know you need enough space for finger clearance and some use the feather as a reference point on there nose. So what distance do you use?

3/4 to an inch

I set my jig up the first day i got it and havent changed it since.Couldnt tell you the exact measurement but I dont like the feathers touching my giant nose! HAHA! it would all depend on how you like to anchor and your personal preferance

I didn't know exactly how far my fletchings were from the nock either, so I measured a nocked arrow on the string.  It is 1 inch from the fletch to the string. There, I learned something today.  That 1 inch gives me plenty of room for my fingers and my nose when at full draw.

And of course there are those of us who mount the cock feather so that the back of it anchors against the tips of our noses at full draw.  In my case, that means that the base of the quill is 2" from the valley of the nock.

I set mine at 7/8 from the base of the mock. I anchor my feather on the tip of my nose and my thumb on my cheek . So I think it realistically just depends on your shooting style.

Tip of nose to back of cock feather.  I shot some store fletched arrows the other day which had the fletching way too forward and after six shots I zipped those feathers off and started fresh with my own.

When I was taught to make arrows I was told  that the closer the back of the feather was to the knock the faster it got the arrow out of paradox . This is within reason of course due to where the feather  will touch on the face . I DO NOT like the feather touching my cheek   but do not mind it touching my nose . I place it as far back as I can without touching .  NOW I was taught that, and  do it just cause of that , Habit after 40 some years of making arrows. I have no idea if it is actually true  or if it was one of those old  "Myths " of  archery .  It never did any  harm!  My arrows always fly well  no matter what the point   so I have no reason to change .   Just my two pennies !

I have adjusted my feather placement so that the leading tip of the feather is 1/8" from the bow.  It makes a good reference for the brace height.  It's an easy way to check if your string is stretching.  Dick

x2 but more like 1 3/4" for me.

I have made arrows for guys who want them 2 1/8" from the nock (long noses) and some 1/2" from nock. If you do use the fletching an anchor pt. on the nose it makes a difference obviously. If not, then 1"-1 1/4" is kind of the norm.

My JoJan puts them 1 1/8 inch from bottom of nock, most aft setting.  That's plenty of room for fingers.  I don't do the nose thing though.
