Im in the process of building some heavy arrows to take to Africa. This is what Im looking at. I like small diameter carbons so the Axis, Full metal jackets and the Goldtip Kinetics.
The FMJ with 300 grains up front seems to be winning. Has anyone used this shaft and what are your thougths.

Depends on what you are going to be using that on in Africa. For Cape Buffalo 600 grains seems to be way too light. You might want to post this question over in the Dangerous Game forum, you'll get more responses over there. Don't forget about the Victory VAP 250's with a 110gr stainless steel adapter you can build them up pretty heavy especially if you weight the shaft down with nylon cord, weedeater string or something similiar.

The FMJ is a great arrow if that set up flys well for you use it.  I shoot a very similar setup.

Heavy Hunter Byron Ferguson shafts from Bear Paw are  very heavy. Kustom King has them .They have 50 gr or 100 grain long inserts as well for them.

Alaska Bowhuntings Momentum arrows will go a lot heaveier

I'm shooting the carbon express pile drivers. The 450's are 13.1 grains per inch.

If you are totally sold on the skinny shafts you might try a bit more point weight and move up to the next heavier spine shafts. My number on pick for carbon arrows is without a doubt the Arrow Dynamics trad series shafts. They are tapered for easy tuning and awesome flight and plenty heavy. Mine weigh in at 652 grains cut to 30" with a 100 grain insert and 175 grain points.

320: 32 1/2": 15.3 gpi: +/- .006
400: 32 1/2": 13.5 gpi: +/- .006
500: 32 1/2": 13.1 gpi: +/- .006

FMJ Dangerous Game

That will make a great arrow. I shot them for years and killed a bunch of deer and some big hogs. I used 400s and 300 grain heads. They came out to about 620 grains. I switched over to beman mfx woodgrain shafts cus I like the wood look. Shooting 400s with a 50 grain insert and 300 grain head. In a home made 55# recurve and haven't had a critter stop one yet. Only shot deer and pigs though.
