Well I got the chance to go hog hunting after a couple of years of wanting to do it! I ended up getting a spot at Hog Heaven and I couldn't wait to get down there! I'll be back in a few   :campfire:

Well I headed out Thursday morning at 5:20am with my buddy that went down with me. It took us 12 hours but we finally made it, got my license and headed to camp. I got everything unpack and shot my bow some, woke up the next morning to the wind really blowing. We headed out but did see or hear a thing that morning!

You certainly had a great time, and it wasn't because of the company  ;)

Friday evening my buddy Hobie and I headed out hopeing to just hear some pigs since the morning was bad. We were walking down a path when we heard some rustling in the leave out in front of us. After searching for a few seconds we finally saw our first pig!!! It was a piglett but with it was several other pigletts and a few sows. We decided that I would drop down in the woods behind them and hobie would work down the path towards them. Well I made my way closer and closer in my socks so I could walk quieter. I finally got within 20 yards of a big sow and started to draw my bow but she saw me and started to take off, I made a bad decision and snap shot at her and shot just low! I'll be right back, I think I'm a little hungry   :biglaugh:

I had it all typed out and my internet messed up!!! Back to the story lol

I went to look for my arrow and noticed that the pigs were about 100 yard out in front of me feeding agian. I got close but couldn't get close enough, I was getting ready to go look for my arrow agian when I heard a grunt to my left! She was behind a big tree so I moved in, I got to 12 yards but needed her to take a couple more steps. Finally she took the steps and I hit full draw, when I hit anchor she picked her head up but it was to late. My arrow was already on it way and it blew through her, she made a small half circle and piled up 30 yards from where I stood! I took out the heart with my 560 grain arrow tipped with a Simmons Interceptor and my bow was a Firefly longbow at 60lbs. It was a awesome feeling I wanted that feeling again!

I noticed she was limping a little before I shot, this is what her front leg looked like.

I ran into another little piggy the next evening but I tell you about that tomorrow sometime.

Mike, brushwolf and longbowlogan were the only two to seal the deal out of our group.  I learned a TON on this trip and can't wait to get back there next winter!

We had six hunters on the ground.  Other than brushwolf we were all piggy virgins, so the learning was constant.

I had the pleasure and honor of teaming up with bartcanoe, a recently retired 29 year Army veteran, native Michigander, a man who has overcome some immense obstacles.  He is a hero in so many ways.  Being able to make his acquaintance and hunt with him for two days was special.

Great job Longbowlogan!

Our group will be there next week. This will be our 6th trip to Hog Heaven. In spite of our efforts, we remain hogless. We just love the place and are always planning the next trip.
