what is the minimum poundage you would use on a hog.i have  40# and a 55# pound bows.i have been shooting the 40# for about a year and shoot good most of the time with it. i just got the 55# learning to shoot it.

BigRonHuntAlot

I would shoot the 55 lb bow on a medium size hog or bigger, the most important items are a well tuned bow/arrow combo with a SHARP broadhead and good shot placement. A 500 + grain arrow will help.

My guess, as I am not a "Hog Hunter" is a Good Sharp BroadHead and a Well Placed Arrow, the 40 Pounder should do the Trick. Just My Opinion, UnLearned as it is.            :archer:

i just dont know what to do

For now - hunt with the one you are the most confident in your accuracy with. If you can build up to that level with the 55#er then it will be fine to switch. Confidence and accuracy are the two most important factors - all things considered.

Kas, No worries relax!!!  Shoot the 40# bow heavy arrow sharp head, 20yds or less it will do just fine. in the mean time start using the 55# bow intermittently, meaning once every 2 to 3 days or so you will work your way into it soon enough.  Soon enough!!

thanks boys.what would be a good broadhead?

Snuffers and Wensel Woodsman are the two best hog heads I have used/seen with my own eyes.

I never shot anything with my WW's, but I wrecked a pig with a Snuffer and my 45# Savannah.

kasey, i used some old bear broad heads with that set up you've got there on the 55#er. I know that bow will get the job done. I took my first traditional kill with it, and two more. You may want to work up to that one and use the lighter one ta hunt with this year. Good luck kasey.

I wouldn't use snuffers on big hogs, any quality 2 blade would do better.
Just my $0.02.

The 40#er will do as long as you do your part and ya do not need a 500 grain arrow out of it, if ya shoot high FOC than a 400 grain arrow will penetrate as well as a 500 grainer, it has been proven. Shawn
