Spent some time shooting in the basement with my wife tonight.  Funny how you miss things when you're concentrating on picking a spot.  Turns out that we have a washer and dryer down there.  I taught her a few things about form and follow through and she shared with me the art of separating lights and darks.  I do believe I have the better hobby.    
On a serious note:  She's currently shooting a 45# shakespear.  I'm looking to purchase something with a little less weight. not looking to break the bank.  Any suggestions?

I got my wife a Maddog midsize longbow. It was 35#@28". 60" amo. It was a great bow & I loved shooting it as much as she did. So I would recommend Mike at Maddog. Fantastic bow and a fantastic price.

I bought my wife a Samick sage. It's a great little bow. I think we paid around $130 for it. It's 35#. Nothing fancy but a good shooter

I bought my wife an older Bear Grizzly pretty cheap, you just have to look around.

I second the sage but upgrade the string if you buy a new one, the one that comes with it is junk!

Mine shots a Sammick Red Stag 30 lb limbs and she really likes that bow, smaller grip, 180 bucks for a take down

Don't know what is considered "breaking the bank" but get the nicest bow in your price range.  I think that sometimes we compromise on the quaility of bows for our spouses.  A smoother shooter will make her want to shoot more with you.  If the bow is lighter weight but has a lot of shock, vibration she may not enjoy it too much.  I bought my wife a bow from the same bowyer that my bows come from.  She enjoys it more now than when she was shooting her "cheap" bow.

When introducing folks to any outdoor discipline we need to be conscious of their comfort. This is especially true for women and children. That means that many times our "hand-me-downs" are not going to fit them. If it doesn't fit, it's not comfortable. If they are not comfortable, they won't do it again. Camping, archery, firearms, fishing, hunting, hiking, the list goes on and on.

My lady has had a number of bows, but her favorites are a River Raisin 3p LB for hunting and a one piece Blackcreek Banshee LB for shoots. Both at 44#. Short, light and easy to point. Why? They are comfortable and that is what counts.

I love it when my wife joins  me shooting.  She has a 1955 Kodiak Special that is 35lbs.  She gets mad at me if I ever bring up the idea of getting another bow for her as she absolutely loves her classic. (shoots it good too).



Its a good idea to get her something in a draw weight she is more comfortable with.  My wifes 35 lb bow zips well matched arrows.  You wouldn't think her bow was 35 lbs.

I am not going to recommend any bows but will second what Jim said.  If you look around, there are deals to be had.  You just need to look and be patient.

Don't forget to separate the darks and match the colors lol.

Thank you all for the input.  We will be searching the yard sales and classifieds for something she likes.  She's not too serious about shooting but she does have a blast when she does.  I believe if she had something that fit her she'd shoot much more often.  I do like the samick sage but she doesn't seem to be too crazy about it.  I'm sure we'll find something that fits her and our budget.
